I had a short stay in Detroit before flying to Toronto. I 1 up the jetway (机道),knowing that my gate was on the opposite end of the airport. I got there with five minutes to 2 and stood waiting for "Group 3" to be called.
I was tired and had an important sales call an hour after I was 3 to get home. I guess you could say that 4 was important. But then it announced, "It seems we have overbooked the flight. Would anyone care to volunteer to5 for the later flight?"
The next flight was at 7:30 p. m. I looked around and saw traders needing to get home for 6 ,parents needing to get home to see their children, and . . . Even though I wanted to be home just as much as anyone, something inside me said that I should help this group of 7 .
I picked up my bag and walked toward the desk. I said, "I volunteer!" The gate attendant (服务员) smiled and 8 .
As she was 9 my ticket,I looked around at all the passengers. They could now take their flight and I was happy that I had been able to help. The attendant handed me my boarding pass (登机证) for the later flight and then said. "This is for your 10 . "
I got to my new gate and took a seat next to a power outlet (电源插座) so that my mobile phone would make it through the 11 four hours. I 12 my sales call and then I got a lot of work done.
When my flight started boarding,I was 13 to discover that my new boarding pass was for a seat in first class!
I began to think about what I had done. I did it in the 14 of serving others, and that kindness was 15 to me.
Kindness is the sunshine of social life. In helping others,we shall help ourselves.
