Water Facts
Water is very important to us. Nearly three quarters of our body is water. 30% to 40% is muscle (肌肉). Every day our body needs one and a half litres (升) of water. We lose water when we breathe and go to the toilet. When we're hot, we also lose water. We can live for a few weeks without food, but we can live only for a few days without water. Betty |
Most food has some water in it. Even bread has water in it. Fruit and vegetables have a lot of water in them, so we should eat plenty of fruit and vegetables every day. For example, oranges, pears, watermelons, apples, tomatoes, cucumbers(黄瓜)and lettuce(生菜)all have a lot of water in them. Ivy |
We use a lot of water at home. We use 70 litres when we have a bath(洗澡)and 100 litres when we use the washing machine a time. What a lot of water! We can help save water at home by taking showers(冲澡)instead of baths. We shouldn't use the washing machine if we only have a few articles of clothing(几件衣服) to wash. We should also remember to turn off the tap when we are brushing our teeth. Tommy |
When the water in a pond freezes(使结冰), it freezes at the top and doesn't freeze at the bottom. This is because cold air can't get through the frozen sheet of ice. The water under this sheet of ice is warm enough for the fish and plants in the pond(池塘)to go on living. Billy |
