My dad was magic. He could make a corner store appear out of nowhere and get me a bag of chips and a bottle of Coke. That was the best part of those1 days when I was young with my dad:no school, and wide-open countryside.
The smell of dust and2 wind pushed fast through the windows as we drove down winding roads.Although now I know how awful it sounds, the smell makes me3 my dad.For years I have enjoyed that4 .We would talk pretty much about anything on those5 :Dad seemed to know everything about everything. He could6 how long a mile was.But what I did not know was that he was7 the odometer(里程表) the whole time.
Those magical corner8 ?He just knew the countryside so well that he knew exactly when to ask if I wanted a9 .And he made it seem like a store just dropped out of the sky onto the side of a country road.
I don't10 much else of those summer days, but they will stay with me for a lifetime.
