①With a sun hat made of solar panels(太阳能电池板),a tea-picking robot weaves Longjing tea bushes in Hangzhou,China's Zhejiang province. The 550-kg robot picker is to help for local tea planters this season, before Qingming Festival, the only three-day harvest(收获)time for spring tea.
② Longjing tea, also known as West Lake Dragon Well tea and it is famous for its green color, good smell, soft taste and beautiful shape.
③ The beautiful shapes of a bud(花蕾)with one or two leaves are often in good quality(质量).And the job depends on large picking work by hand,"said Jia Jiangming, developer of the robot. However, most of the tea pickers are 60 years old and hardly any young people would like to work among them.If so,the Longjing tea industry(行业)may face a great problem.
④ Jia held the same opinion when explaining why his team started to develop tea- picking robots in 2019.
⑤ In fact, the early shape of spring tea is about 2 cm long,so it needs exact skills of the mechanical(机械的)arms."If it cuts the wrong part, the robot will hurt the shapes of tea leaves." said the developers.
⑥ Jia's team started deep learning like studying many data(数据) in order to make this tea-picking robot work well.Using binocular stereo vision(双眼立休视觉),the robot can exactly know where the bud and the leaf are.
⑦ Earlier this year,Jia's robot helper developed into its fifth generation (代),the accuracy (精准性) up to 86 percent."The new generation robot can do as well as a human tea picker," said another developer. The team members are always trying their best, but the robot is still in its test time.
