For students from Songjiang No. 1 High School in Shanghai, one of the best times of their school days must be the pomelo(柚子) picking festival. Starting in 2011, the festival has created many happy memories for the students. But do you know how it came into being? More than 10 years ago, about 40 pomelo trees were planted along the sidewalks at Songjiang No. 1 High School. Students sometimes climbed the trees to pick pomelos. Their teachers were worried that they would fall off the trees and get hurt. One day, a teacher came up with a good idea —the pomelo picking festival. Since it was dangerous for the students to climb the trees secretly, why not allow them to pick pomelo s in a safe and interesting way? So the pomelo picking festival was born. Now, the festival has become one of the most expected events in the school every year. At the festival, students pick pomelo s with their teachers and juice them to make pomelo tea or make the fruit into cute handicrafts(手工艺品). With teachers' help, some students even write poems, give speeches, or carry out experiments and studies on pomelos.
