Ren Jilan was born in a 1992. Her family was poor because of her parents' bad health. With the help of some kind people, she finished her 12-year school study and was accepted by a university at the age of 22. It had always been her dream to study in a university but her family didn't have enough money. When she was going to give up (放弃), Li Zhenhua, a teacher at Yiyuan County, came and helped her.
However, the four-year university life didn't go as well as Ren wished. After her father died, she decided to take her mother with her. She rented (租用) a small house near the university and started her special university life. Life was not easy during the four years, but Ren enjoyed it.
Though she got an opportunity to work as a teacher in a big city, Ren turned it down and chose to go back to her hometown. She became a teacher at Fuluping School, where Mr. Li once worked. "Mr. Li gave up a good job in a big city to teach students at the village school. I'd like to follow his example and do something for rural (乡村的) education, " says Ren.
In 2022, Ren got the China Youth May 4th Medal—the country's top honor (荣誉) for excellent young people.
