At the beginning of time, the earth was warm, and people did not need fire (火). But slowly, the world became colder. People had to stay in their cold homes.
One day, a beautiful bird orange tail (尾巴) came to speak with them. "You are very ," said the bird. "You need to have fire so you can warm your houses and cook your food. I have fire and will give to you." But the bird did not give it easily. It wanted the people to know important the fire was! It said, "Only kind people can get my fire. Bring some dry wood (木头) and touch my tail with it, and you will have fire." Everyone ran quickly to the bird. They all wanted to get the fire than other people. But bird flew (飞) away. The bird thought those people were not kind, it didn't want to give fire to them.
As the fire bird was flying away, it noticed a young woman sitting alone with a very old man in an old house. It knocked the door and asked, "Why are you not running after fire like all the other people?" The woman said, "My grandfather is badly ill, and I must after him."
The bird came close to the woman, "Touch my ," It said, "and you can get this great gift." And finally, fire came to the people.
