New Year was coming. One day, 1 my way home from school, a lady gave me a piece of paper saying that the neighborhood was asking people to give New Year gifts to those 2 needed them. When I got home, I showed my mother 3 paper and said that I wanted to take part in the plan. My mother agreed and encouraged me to offer 4 to others. She said we would become "Neighborhood Angels."
Several days later, my mother 5 me to the town center. "I will drive you to Boots Department Store 6 something you think suitable for a neighborhood present."she said. As we went into the store, my mother gave me $20 to pay for the gift. Then she left me alone to do the shopping. I was not used to buying things on my own. Everything seemed very strange and confusing to me, but I carried on. I asked 7 what I should buy and for whom. An idea quickly came to me. There was a poor boy in our neighborhood. I used to see him often without a jacket during the cold winter months. He 8 "Poor Ralph"by other boys. So I decided, then and there, to buy him a warm jacket.
As I paid for the jacket 9 , the assistant asked,"Is this for someone?" I said yes,and she wished me a Happy New Year. I felt as if I were a real"Neighborhood Angel."10 unforgettable experience!
