29-year-old Yang Xu has taken up a new hobby, seal carving(篆刻), and has been taking classes at a local night school. "I used to spend my free time 1 my smartphone,"Yang said. "Now, I spend one and a half 2 on the seal carving every day, finding achievement and peace in 3 ."
Night classes 4 very popular in the 1980s, when many young Chinese people were learning new skills 5 a living. Today, these classes are becoming 6 again among young people, though they are now on the purpose of enriching cultural needs.
