" Money can't buy me love," the famous UK rock band the Beatles once sang. But what about happiness?
According to Elizabeth Dunn and Michal Norton, "Money can make you more satisfied with life" . The secret is that you need to know to spend it. In their book Happy Money: The New Science of Smarter Spending, they offer tips for happy spending.
•Buy experiences instead of things.
A pair of new shoes may you happy for a while, but the joy soon disappears. Spend your money on experiences such as going on holiday or visiting a museum, which will make you than things and give you something to talk about when you are with your friends.
• Make it a treat.(让它成为一种享受)
You love hamburgers, but you have one hamburger every day, the enjoyable experience will finally become boring. So, make a hamburger a special treat after a whole week of hard work.
• Invest (投入) in others .
The combination (结合) of using time and money on someone else is the magic formula (魔术公式) for happiness. If you are preparing a birthday gift your friend, stop thinking about buying a bracelet (手镯). Instead, go buy the beads (珠子) and make the bracelet yourself. After all, a gift made by not only shows your thoughtful mind, also better expresses how much you care about your friend.
Even with these tips, however, Dunn and Norton said that you shouldn't " bet on" (孤注一掷) money buying happiness. Happiness can't be searched for, but it comes to you slowly—it's the result of having meaningful to do, something to hope for and someone to love.
