A popular saying in the UK is “Manners make the man.” In Britain, even today, people are judged by their table manners, especially when eating out. Here're some things to remember.

        Things you should do:

If you are at a dinner party, wait until your host starting eating.

Chew and swallow(咽)all the food in your mouth before taking more or taking a drink.

Break bread and rolls with your fingers not with your knife.

Break a small piece of bread (or a roll) and butter it.

Do not butter the whole slice or half a roll at a time.

You may eat chicken and pizza with your fingers if you are a barbecue or a very informal situation. or always use a knife and fork.

        Things you should not do:

Never chew with your mouth open.

Never talk with food in your mouth.

Do not blow on hot food or drinks.

Never use your fingers to push food onto your spoon or fork.

If you spill(洒出) anything on someone else, do not try to clean up the thing. Offer him/her a napkin and let him/ her do it.

If you burp, cover your mouth with your napkin. After it happens, say a quiet “pardon me”.

If you get some food stuck between your teeth, do not use toothpicks or napkins to deal with the food at the table. __________ go to the bathroom and take it out.
