The following part is from the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Dorothy and her friends wanted to go to the Yellow Road, but there was a river in front of them. The Yellow Road they wanted to go was opposite it.
"How will we cross that river?" the Tin Woodman asked.
"Easy!" the Scarecrow(稻草人) said. "We can cut some trees and make a boat."
They worked together and the boat was ready the next morning. They all got on it. The Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow used long poles(杆子) to make the boat move forward. But the water was running very fast. It took them down the river and they were far away from the Yellow Road.
The Tin Woodman looked worried. "It's no good," he said.
"No, not at all," said the Scarecrow. "It'll be very dangerous for us."
"What's wrong?" asked Dorothy.
"If the river takes us downriver, we're going towards the Wicked Witch(女巫) of the West," answered the Tin Woodman. "Maybe she'll catch and eat us!" "Oh, no," Dorothy cried.
"We must go back to the Yellow Road," the Scarecrow said. He tried to stop the boat with his pole. Unluckily, the boat moved away, but he was still on the pole in the middle of the river.
"Goodbye!" the Scarecrow shouted to his friends.
Everyone looked around and found the Scarecrow was not on the boat.
"How can we save him?" Dorothy asked sadly.
"Well, if one of us can fly, it would be easy," the Tin Woodman said.
