Chinese young people have an18-year-old coming-of-age ceremony (成人礼). In some other countries, people also celebrate coming-of-age. Now let's have a look.
★France
The ceremony is called"Le Bal". It can go back to the Debutante Ball(初次社交舞会) in England. Englishmen first began the Debutante Ball in the 1600s and ended it in the 1950s. But"Le Bal"still lasts in France, in November each year. It's for girls aged between 16 and 22.
★Japan
Coming-of-Age Day is a national holiday in Japan. Young people celebrate their 20th birthday. On the second Sunday in January, each city has a celebration. The new adults(成年人) go to the City Hall and get presents. They wear new clothes and their families take lots of photos.
★Argentina
Girls from Argentina are very excited (兴奋地) about their 15th birthday. It means they grow from a girl to a young woman. There is a special celebration — the Quince Anos. Alice is 15 this year. Her parents held a party for her. She got a nice dress and a large cake with fifteen candles. At the end of the party, she gave out the candles to each of the fifteen women(e. g. her mom, her grandma, her aunt…). They are the most important in her life.
