Dave's mom is making bean soup. She gives Dave three beans. "Let's watch them grow," said Dave. "Beans need sun and water to grow," said Dave's mom. She gives him a jar. First, Dave puts a napkin （纸巾） in the jar. Next, he puts some water on the napkin. Then, he puts the beans on the napkin. Last, he puts the lid （盖子） on the jar. Dave puts the jar near a window. The sun warms the beans. In two days, Dave sees small white shoots. "The beans have small white shoots!" he said. "The shoots will be the beans' roots （根）," said mom. The shoots grow and grow, and they are long and green.
