Welcome to the magical world of Shan Hai Jing, or The Classicof Mountains and Seas. Let's meet three of the magical creatures in this book! Fenghuang The first one is the Fenghuang. The males (雄性) are called Feng and the females (雌性) Huang. Like a peacock, the Fenghuang has a long tail. Its feathers shine with bright colours. It's a bird of fire andrebirth (重生). When people see it, it's a sign of peace (和平) and goodluck. Qilin Next, we meet the Qilin. It has the body of a deer and the tail of anox. Qi is for males and Lin for females. It can fly in the sky, walk onwater, roar like thunder (雷声) , and breathe fire. People think it brings good luck and blessings. Pixiu There flies a lion-looking beast! The Pixiu is the Dragon King's ninth son. It has the head of a dragon and the body of a horse. It looks like dark clouds in the sky. It guards Heaven (天庭) to ward off evil. Gold, silver and jewels (珠宝) are its food. So, it's a symbol of wealth! |
