Pancake Day Every year in February, different places around the UK hold pancake races on Pancake Day. People hold a pan with a pancake inside. Then, they start running. They have to flip (翻转) the pancake when they run. The races came from a funny story. In 1445, a woman was cooking and was late for a party. She ran to the party with a pancake in a pan. Cheese-rolling (滚奶酪) Game The British hold a cheese-rolling game on Cooper's Hill in the small English village of Brockworth every year. Hundreds of people run quickly down a 180-meter course (跑道) down the hill to catch a rolling cheese. The person who catches the cheese first wins the game. It is great fun but also dangerous. Many fall down and get hurt. ____ On the last Wednesday of each August, people in Spain have a big tomato fight festival. People celebrate it in the small town of Bunol. Thousands of people join in the tomato fight. They throw ripe (成熟的) tomatoes at each other. Tomato juice and seeds are all over them from head to foot. |
