Juleus Ghunta is a children's author. He and his three sisters were raised by a single mother, who often had to make 1 choices, including a decision to send his sisters to school, and to keep Ghunta at home.
When Ghunta finally went to school, he could 2 read because he had been kept home from school as a child and had seldom been 3 to books. Even at six grade, he still couldn't 4 words, spell, or read with understanding. "I 5 in school with a deep sense of loss and shame." he recalled.
Fortunately, a teacher-in-training started a special 6 program for struggling students. Ghunta was the first to 7 . That teacher, whose name he 8 , would change his life. She did not ask anything of him, 9 his hard work and belief in himself. Eventually, Ghunta's reading skills greatly improved.
He graduated with a number of academic 10 from elementary school, such as one for "most improved in reading." "She left me with the gift of literacy(读写能力), and with a deeper 11 of my personhood." he said.
In honor of his teacher, he wrote a story about a teacher helping a boy 12 difficulties in school. In 2010, Ghunta visited his old school, and asked every teacher 13 if they knew his old teacher's name, but in vain.
He still hopes one day when he can convey his gratitude to her for seeing his 14 ."I would love her to see the significant 15 that she has made on my life, and the ways I have carried this memory of her and how it continues to be a source of joy."
