After William was killed, I couldn't get over my deep feelings of sadness and loss. Worse still, Justine, who was a loyal servant and attached to my family, was wrongly sentenced to death even if everybody in my family believed she was the last one to kill William. I knew it was the monster who killed my dear William but how could I prove that? I felt regretful and guilty because it was I myself who created such a monster but there seemed to be nothing I could do to stop him.
I now felt that I was the true murderer.
The endless horror and despair consumed me everyday whenever I thought of my creation being capable of killing anyone close to me. I wished I could kill him right away! I wanted to take revenge(复仇) for the death of William and Justine.
Then came the chance when I climbed Montanvert one day. Reaching the top and enjoying the view, I suddenly saw a large man coming towards me at superhuman speed. Realizing it was the monster, I shouted with anger and horror," Devil! How dare you come near me? Aren't you afraid that I will take my revenge?"
"My creator, you want to kill me? How dare you play with life like this?"
Inflamed by burning hatred, I jumped at him but he easily moved out of the way. Then magically he used eloquence (口才) to persuade me into listening to him about all his sufferings. For a moment, sympathy took possession of me when he accounted how he was hated and condemned by humans just because of his frightening appearance, even if he always behaved nicely to them and tried to be kind and gentle.
"I was good, but I am alone." The monster concluded with a torturing look in his ugly face. "Promise you will create a companion for me. Humans will have nothing to do with me, but a female as deformed and horrible as myself would not refuse me."
I refused his request without hesitation. How could I create another monster after so many tragedies(悲剧)?
