The First Shot
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Andy sat near the lake at a park, enjoying the warm sunshine and the soft wind. Beside the lake, a group of high school boys was playing 1 .
Andy took a quick look and then turned back. He was short and thin. He never thought he could make a shot, and he didn't play basketball before. Just then, one of the boys threw(扔) the ball 2 It flew straight over the basket and went all the way to where Andy was sitting.
Andy heard some of the boys crying loudly and turned to see a big orange ball 3 his way.
"Stop the ball," one of them cried.
The ball landed a few feet away from Andy and jumped again to the lake. Just before it fell into the lake, Andy 4 it.
"Bring it over here," called one of the boys.
Andy walked over with the ball slowly. Those unknown older boys made him nervous. But to his surprise (惊讶), they welcomed him warmly.
"Thanks!" "That was really a good catch !" They all said at once.
"Why don't you join us?" Someone 5 him.
"I can't play basketball. I don't know if I can do it..." Andy said, feeling 6 .
"Come on! Try a shot!"
Andy took the ball and kept his 7 on the basket. Then he gave it his best shot. He made it! Andy smiled as the boys all cheered (欢呼) happily for him.
From that day on, Andy started to 8 about how to play basketball. And he loved it very much. His first try opened up a new world for him.
