Holi is one of the most important festivals in India. Holi means"colour"in Indian language,so the festival is also called the Festival of Colors. It's a celebration of the end of winter and the beginning of spring. It also celebrates a triumph(胜利) of good over bad.
When is Holi?
The festival is between the end of February and the middle of March. This year,Holi was celebrated on March 18.
How is Holi celebrated in India?
People sing and dance around a bonfire on the eve of Holi. They also throw wood,dry leaves,and some food into the fire to drive evil spirits away and celebrate a new life. The following day,family and friends gather to throw colourful powders (粉末) at each other and in the air. Each of the colors has different meanings. Red represents love;blue represents the Indian God Krishna;green is for a new beginning;yellow is the colour of a plant which is used﹣as ﹣medicine Then people enjoy delicious food. Holi is seen as the most joyful festival.

Australia holds many Holi celebrations. Bangladesh also celebrates Holi. On the day,people gather to greet each other and enjoy colors. In the US,people celebrate the festival as well. For example,Holi has been celebrated at the University of North Carolina System (UNC) since
2008. Holi is the largest student﹣run event on UNC's campus (校园). This year,students held shows and speeches,and then they counted down from 10 and finally got to throw powders in the air. Pink,blue,orange and purple filled the sky. Michelle Dixit,a student who attended the event,described the moment, "It was almost as if I had gone into a magical and colourful world. It's really a great event. "
