World Sleep Day is on March 21st. Last year's theme was “Healthy sleep, away from the slow disease”. Its aim is to celebrate the benefits (好处) of good and healthy sleep.
Sleep is like food for the brain. Enough sleep helps the body and brain grow and develop. According to the National Sleep Foundation in the US, adults need seven to nine hours of sleep every night. For students aged 10 to 17, a healthy amount is about eight to nine hours per night.
But many students don't get enough sleep because of early school start times and heavy homework. About 80 percent of middle school students don't get enough sleep, the China Youth and Children Research Center reported. For some students, they want to sleep early, but they keep worrying about their schoolwork and can't fall asleep quickly. For others, they may even have insomnia which might keep them awake all night.
These sleeping problems greatly affect people's lives. Experts have shown that lack of sleep for teenagers leads to poor grades. Students without enough sleep cannot pay attention in class or do well in sports. Also, lack of sleep may make them depressed.
Luckily, with good sleep habits, it is easier to fall asleep. Some of these good habits include avoiding drinks that make people excited late in the day, going to sleep at the same time each night, and sleeping in a comfortable place that is dark, quiet, and neither too warm nor too cold.
a. Sleeping in a bright place.
b. Going to bed at the same time.
c. Sleeping in a dark and quiet place.
d. Drinking something that makes you excited.
Twenty years ago my company sent me back to school for further education. So I went back to school three years after graduating from college.
I was a little bit nervous, so I tried to prepare myself the best I could. I bought all my textbooks before the classes started. Then I went to the school the week before and found exactly where my classroom was. I packed my bag full of books and left early on the morning of the class to be sure that I got there on time.
We all crowded into the classroom and the professor introduced himself to the class. He wrote his contact information on the blackboard and told us to write it down. I was just opening up my bag to get out a notebook when I realized that I didn't have one. I searched through my bag for a piece of paper, but I had none.
I asked the student seated at the desk next to me, “Excuse me, could I borrow a piece of paper, please?” He looked at me a little strangely, but gave me several pieces.
I was so embarrassed. Here I was on my first day of class and I had not even brought any paper with me. I opened my bag again to get out a pen to write down the teacher's contact information. No pen. I got the attention of the student next to me again. “Excuse me, could I borrow a pen, please?”
①The professor introduced himself to the class.
②I borrowed a piece of paper from my classmate.

Over the last few centuries, there have been many changes in our lives.
To start with, people were not able to travel such a long distance in such a short time in the past. Planes were not very popular at that time because they used to be a very expensive way to travel. Nowadays, we have fast, comfortable cars, and more and more people can travel by plane.
Secondly, in the past, people had to work much harder because they did not have the tools that we have today. Today, most of the difficult and dangerous work is done by computers and machines.
Thirdly, in the past, the living conditionswere not as good as they are now. There were no bathrooms or running water in many houses, and many people could not buy things like fridges, TV sets or washing machines. Now, most families have several of these things.
Finally, nowadays, more and more people have the chance to get a good education. In the past, there were fewer schools and the quality of education was much poorer. Also, it is much easier to find the educational materials that you need on the Internet now.
The scientific and technological development in the world is amazing. Life now is much faster and busier than it used to be. And we are still creating new things to make our lives better and easier.
