Whenever my child caused me to change my schedule(行程), I thought1myself.
We don't have time for this. Therefore, the two2I most commonly spoke to my child were: Hurry up. But I made my promise to3almost three years ago, and I began my journey to pay more attention to what4in life. Actually, my younger daughter often reminds me of5I must keep trying to slow down.
One day, the two of us had taken a bike ride to the6. After buying an ice cream, my daughter sat down at a table7enjoying it. Suddenly a look of8came across her face. Do I have to rush, mama?
I nearly9. Perhaps the pains of a10life didn't ever completely disappear, I thought sadly. You don't have to rush, my dear. I said11. Her whole face immediately brightened and her shoulders relaxed. Then we sat side by side talking.
There were even moments when we sat in12, just smiling at each other. When she got to the last bite(咬最后一口), she held out the ice cream for me. I13the last bite for you, mama, my daughter said proudly. I realized I just gave my child a little time… and in14, she gave me her last bite and reminded me that things taste sweeter and love comes15when you stop rushing through life.
Do you love a tomato fight? Come to Spain(西班牙) and enjoy its famous tomato festival, La Tomatina(西红柿大战).The Spanish love to eat tomatoes. Tomato sauce is served on the side with fried eggs, chicken, meat and omeletsat most Spanish dinner tables.
There was a parade(游行) and festival in Bunol on the last Wednesday of August of 1945 when a fight broke out between some young men. With the help of a nearby fruit and vegetable store, they threw tomatoes at each other. The following year the young people brought tomatoes with them to the parade and started a tomato fight again. Each year the fight went on until the early 1950s. In fact, since 1980 the city government has served the tomatoes!
Today La Tomatina is celebrated on the last Wednesday in August in the small town of Bunol in the east of Spain. The festival starts at 11:00 a.m. with the sound of rocket being fired and ends one hour later. Last year 40,000 people took part in throwing over 100 tons of tomatoes in the streets and this year even more are expected.
During tomato fight, you must not bring bottles or other type of things that could make an accident. You must not tear(撕扯) or throw T-shirts. The tomatoes must be broken before throwing them, to stop from hurting people. You must be careful of any traffic. When you hear the second sound, you must stop throwing tomatoes.
When the fight is over, everyone then sets off to the river to clean up. Sounds like fun.

In 2017, the Chinese action movie Wolf Warrior 2 won a big success. It has received much attention and positive reviews after it was shown in China and oversea markets including Australia and the US. The film had earned about 5.68 billion yuan in China.
The major actor Wu Jing is also the director of the film, who played the role of Leng Feng, a soldier serving for China's Special Forces.
At the age of six, Wu Jing was sent to the Beijing Sports Institute at Shichahai. Both his father and grandfather were also martial artists. Like Jet Li before him, he competed as a member of the Beijing Wushu Team. Two years later, in 1982 he won the National Wushu Championship. He won first place in several national level Wushu competitions at the junior level and continued to compete as an adult.
Why has Wolf Warrior 2 gained so much popularity? Besides great scenes and wonderful performances, many Chinese were inspired by the patriotism of the Chinese soldier Leng Feng during the mission(任务). He couldn't finish the mission successfully without the love for our country.
At the end of the film, Leng Feng led some people to go back to China and then a short message was showed: Citizens of the People's Republic of China. When you encounter danger in a foreign land, do not give up! Please remember, at your back stands a strong motherland.
The Smallest Life around Us
Tiny plants and animals live all around us. We cannot see them because they are so small, but they are everywhere.
They live in the soil, the air, and in rivers and oceans. They grow on mountains and in caves.
Some live in the ice at the north and south poles; some live where it is very hot. They are found throughout cities and in the country. They grow on other plants and animals. Some are even living on you, on your skin, hair, and inside your body, in your mouth, nose, and all through your intestines(肠) .
These tiny plants and animals are called microbes. The word microbe is made from two other words: micro, meaning small, and bios, meaning life. So, microbe means small life.
Microbes have been on the earth for a very long time. They may have been the first forms of life to be alive. Today there are more microbes in the world than all other living things.
People did not know microbes had existed(存在) long. They were too small for them to see.
But people did see many changes in their world—important changes. And they did not know what caused them. They saw food that they kept too long change color and begin to smell bad. They saw cuts and wounds grow red and painful and become infected(感染) . They saw old plants and leaves and trees crumble apart on the forest floor and disappear into the soil. Such changes were a natural part of the world, but people did not understand them. They did not know these changes were evidence(证据) of tiny plants and animals growing all around them.
If you are lost in having some (问题), it might be a good idea to ask for information or help, so it is important to know how to ask for information (礼貌地)and properly.
Usually, people change the way they speak when they talk with different people. It (多数)depends on the person you are speaking to or your relationship with them. (有时), when you know the people very well, you may talk more (直接)to them. However, if you don't know them very well, it might be better to speak (用)a more polite way like Excuse me, Mr. West, could you please …? What's more, in some situations we might need to spend more time (引导)into a question using such (例子)as Excuse me. I (想知道)if you can help me… or I'm sorry to trouble you, but… before asking for help.
In a word, learning about etiquette(礼仪)is just as important as learning the language itself. And being more polite to (其他人)might help you when you are in trouble.
In China, there are always many interesting stories about inventions. Chopsticks are one of the (important) inventions in Chinese history. Do you know the story behind the chopsticks?
Let me tell you.
According a famous story, it was Dayu invented chopsticks. Dayu , together Yao and Shun, was the Emperor of ancient times. At that time, there was a flood(洪灾) in China. One day, he was (have) meals at home. Someone told him that the flood was coming.
He decided to hurry to the flood. He was hungry and picked up some meals on the table. He wanted to eat (quick) . But the food was hot to pick with hands. Then he used two branches(树枝) from a tree (pick) up the food. They were the (one) pair of chopsticks.
On my weekly math exam, I made a big mistake. Even worse, in front of all my classmates he criticized(批评) me! I was angry.
I thought I must be called for more punishment. But to my surprise, he said, Do you get your mistake now? I believe a clever student like you would have never done that except by accident.
Next, he carefully read both the question and the answer.
He was so kind that I was deeply moved. My anger went away.
But it wasn't the end. He called me again and gave me some papers that afternoon. They are especially designed for me.
In my heart I had nothing left to say, only thanks and sorry. I should thank him for he was such a good teacher.
A. He told me to finish them and take it seriously. B. My math teacher wasn't satisfied. C. Because I once misunderstood him. D. I was asked to the office after that class. E. Then he asked again whether I had any problems. |
