One day, some animals got together. They were talking about which animals were the 1. The pig said, "Pigs are the greatest because we have many 2. I have twelve healthy little pigs." He asked the rabbit, "3 babies do you have?"
The rabbit felt embarrassed(尴尬的). He had seven. Then he 4 the sheep and said, "He only has two!" Everyone 5.
A snake walked by and said, "We snakes are truly the greatest. You know,I have fifty!"
"So what?" said 6animal. Everyone turned around and saw a7.
The snake lifted up his8and looked at the lion. "Why do you say so? I have fifty babies. You only have 9. That's nothing." All the other animals 10 with the snake.
The lion laughed and said, "Yes, you are right. I only have one baby. 11, it is a lion. Only a lion 12 be the king. So lions are the best!"
The other animals couldn't think of 13 to say. They had many babies, but 14 could ever be as strong as a lion. "One valuable(有价值的)thing," said the lion, "is much 15 than a hundred common ones."
A farmer was put in prison(监狱). One day, he got a letter from his wife.
"I am worried about our farm," she wrote. "It's time to plant potatoes, but I can't do all the digging(挖) by myself."
The farmer thought over and then had an idea. He wrote to his wife, "Don't dig the fields. This is where my gold is. Don't plant potatoes until I come home."
A few days later, the farmer got another letter from his wife. It said, "Two days ago, about ten prison guards(看守) came to our fields. It looked as if they were looking for something. They have dug our field."
The farmer wrote to his wife at once, "Now you can plant our potatoes."
There are over 37 000 known kinds of spiders(蜘蛛)in different shapes and sizes in the world. The largest spiders live in the rain forests of South America and are known as the "bird-eating" spiders. These spiders can grow up to 28cm long and they eat small birds. The smallest spiders are from Western Samoa. These tiny spiders are less than 0.5mm long. They live in the plants that grow on mountain rocks.
Some people like to keep spiders as pets but most people don't like touching them. A great number of people are afraid of them mainly because of their poison—something will make them hurt or even die. But in fact, only thirty kinds of spiders are very dangerous to humans. Spiders provide benefits for humans by catching and eating insects such as flies and mosquitoes (蚊子).
Spiders are different from other animals because they make webs to catch the small insects for food. The special silk of a spider's web is light and strong—five times(倍)stronger than steel. Some people have tried to raise spiders in order to collect their silk but no one was successful in doing it. One reason is that it takes 670 000 spiders to produce half a kilo of silk and all of these spiders need living insects for their food. Besides, spiders are usually solitary (独自的) animals and they need keeping alone.
All in all people are amazed to learn that there are so many secrets in spiders!
In American history, Benjamin Franklin was very famous. He was a leader of the American Revolution against English rule. He was also a scientist, inventor and writer. And he was even well-known for his proverbs(谚语). Some of them are still used today, like this one: "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise." And another one is "A penny sawed is a penny earned", which means money should not be wasted(浪费).
Americans like to use proverbs, which have deep meanings. Here is an interesting collection of proverbs that Americans use. Some people say "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." This means you love someone even more when he or she is far away.
Another proverb says "Love is blind." In other words, when you are in love with someone, you may refuse to see anything bad about that person.
Here is another popular saying about love: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." Some people believe that a woman can win a man's love if she prepares his favorite foods.
Some people only want to love someone who is very good-looking. You might tell them that "Beauty is only skin deep." Your girlfriend may be lovely to look at, but she may also have some bad qualities (品质). Or maybe your boyfriend is a wonderful person, but not good-looking. So what a person looks like is not really important.
In the end, we must say, "All good things must come to an end." Make another collection of proverbs if you like. Anyway, "Actions speaks louder than words."
Yesterday I went out to play with my (同班同学), Tom. Our parents (允许) us to go and have fun. But they told us not to ride our bikes (马虎地)because the traffic was heavy on the road. We had a great day. First, we went to watch a popular movie called Rob-B-Hood. It (描述) the story of a (婴儿). The movie was quite interesting, but the cinema was very (拥挤的). Because there was a (告示) saying "Half price today. Come to enjoy yourselves." After the movie, we still had (足够的) time. So we went to the zoo to see some animals. The monkeys were really cute and I wanted (喂;喂养) bananas to them. But the zoo worker asked me not to do it. Because it was dangerous. I said, "I am sorry, I won't do it again!" In the (最后,末尾), we went home happily.

Over a river there was a very narrow (窄的) bridge. One daygoat(羊)was crossing this bridge, just at the middle of the bridge he (meet) another goat.
There was no room(空间) for them (pass).
"Go back," said one goat to the other. "There is no room for both of us."
" should I go back?" asked the other goat. "Why don't you go back?"
"You must go back," said the first goat, "because I am (strong) than you."
"You are not bigger than me." said the (two) goat.
"We will see about that." said the first goat, and he put down his horns(角) (fight)打架.
"Stop!" said the second goat. " we fight, we will both fall into the river and die. Instead, I have a plan--I shall lie down, and you may walk over me."
Then the clever goat lay down on the bridge, and the other goat walkedhim lightly. So they passed each other, and went on (they)ways.
