You may know about "junk food" like French fries. But do you know about "junk sleep"?
Recently, a British survey found that electronic products(电子产品)in teenagers' bedrooms are affecting(影响)their sleep. The survey was done among 1,000 British kids from 12 to 16. It found that 30 percent of them got just 4 to 7 hours of sleep every day. But doctors say they need 8 to 9 hours.
Almost a quarter of the kids said they fell asleep more than once a week while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.
"This is very worrying." said Dr. Chris Idzikowski, "We call it "junk sleep". It means you don't get enough sleep and the quality(质量)of the sleep is bad, too. If you don't get good rest, you won't perform well in school the next day."
The survey found that 40 percent of the kids felt tired each day, with girls between 13 and 16 feeling the worst. Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, Mp5 or TV in their bedrooms. And many of them have all three.
One day, Thomas Edison came home and gave a paper to his mother. He told her, "My teacher gave this paper to me and told me to only give it to my mother."
His mother's eyes were tearful(含泪的)as she read the letter out loud to her child, "Your child is a genius(天才).This school is too small for him and doesn't have enough good teachers to train(培养)him. Please teach him yourself."
The fact was that Edison liked asking strange questions in class. His teachers thought he was mentally(智力的) ill. They couldn't stand him and decided to stop him from going to school. However, Edison's mother didn't give up on her son. She taught him at home.
After many years, Edison's mother died. Edison became one of the greatest inventors(发明家).One day, he was going through the old family things and found a folded letter that was given to him by his teacher for his mother. He opened it. The message written on the letter was, "Your son is mentally ill. We can not let him come to our school anymore. He is expelled(开除)."
Edison cried for hours and then he wrote in his diary, "Thomas Alva Edison was a mentally ill child whose mother turned him into the genius of the century."
A mother's love and encouragement can help change the destiny(命运) of a child.
How long is a year? Most people say a year is 365 days. It takes about 365 days for the earth to go around the sun. In fact, it takes a little longer for the earth to go around the sun. It needs 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds.
If a year has only 365 days, what happens to the extra(额外的) 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds? The answer is this: Every four years, we have another day. It's February 29, and we call this day " a leap day(闰日)".This kind of year is called "a leap year". A leap year has 366 days.
People born on February 29 are called leap-day babies, or leapers. There are about four million leapers in the world. When do they celebrate their birthday? Do they celebrate only once every four years? Some leapers celebrate the birthday on February 28, and others celebrate it on March 1. Think about it: A twelve-year-old leaper may have celebrated only three birthdays on the real day after he or she was born!
Which year are leap years? Years that can be divided(除尽)by four are leap years. The year 2000 was a leap year. Then 2004,2008,2012,2016 were the next leap years. If you know a leaper, you must say "Happy birthday!" to him or her on the leap day, because you just have one time to do that every four years!

From tomorrow, everything you 6will turn to gold. "
The next morning the king got7 of the bed early. He wanted to see if his wish would come true. First, he touched the chair, then a flower, then a table. 8he touched turned to gold! Just then the little princess(公主) came into the dining room. She ran to her 11. But as soon as he touched her, she turned to gold. The king cried sadly and ran out to the garden. I'm a fan of movies. There are quite a few (cinema) in my town. But I am new in town and don't know them clearly. So my friends give me some information (choose) a good one.
Speaker 1: I'm Linda. The City Theater has the newest movies and (comfortable) seats. The prices of the tickets are also fair(合理的)., it isn't open on Tuesday and Thursday.
Speaker 2: I'm Daniel. The Tianhe Cinema is the most modern cinema the biggest screens. But the service isn't so good and people can't bring food or drinks into the cinema. They can only buy them inside the cinema. So I hardly (watch) movies there before.
Speaker 3: I'm Eric. The Star Cinema is my favorite. One of the main reasons (be) that it has the funniest movies and the seats are very comfortable. It's open every day and you go there on Monday and Wednesday morning, you will find the tickets are half price. It also provides(提供)free water and its big hall can hold (容纳) two hundred people at a time. Of course, the screens are (true) big. So I will invite my friends to see film there on my birthday.
