When I was a kid, I loved to play a Chinese traditional game which was called Caught You! I clearly remember playing it every spring and fall if it was good weather. We usually looked forward to this exciting activity which was led by Miss Li. At that time, we always kept asking Miss Li when to play and where to play, and she used to answer with a smile. She knew we all expected to play the game.

In this game, you need a group of people, a piece of cloth, and a small ball. Miss Li usually took us to a beautiful park with a large green lawn. To keep the game going well, Miss Li would be the leader who always gave orders to make the game fair, reasonable and &n. At the beginning of the game, we sat in a circle except for one person who was selected sitting outside the circle with his or her eyes blindfolder. That meant he or she couldn't see who was holding the small ball. This was a key point.

As soon as everybody was ready, Miss Li declared a start. At that moment, we began to pass the small ball one by one around the circle, and the one who sat alone could shout “Stop!” at any time he or she wished. When we heard “Stop”, the student who had the ball in his or her hand had to stand up and sing a song or tell a story. From time to time, we laughed loudly because the players made some funny faces and noise. The person outside the circle was replaced every five minutes.

Now I have grown up. I miss this game because it was a lot of fun. I laughed and had a good time when I played it.

    1. (1) Which seasons did the writer often play the game?

A .      In spring and summer. B .      In spring and autumn. C .      In summer and autumn. D .      In spring and winter.
    2. (2) Who was the leader of the game?

      A .      The writer. B .      A student inside the circle. C .      The student outside the circle. D .      Miss Li.
    3. (3) Why did they laugh loudly from time to time when playing games?

A .      Because the person outside could see nothing. B .      Because the person who sat alone looked funny. C .      Because the players made them laugh a lot. D .      Because Miss Li was very humorous.
    4. (4) What do you think of Miss Li from the passage?

      A .      Friendly. B . Careful. C . Serious. D . Busy.

When settlers (移民)came to America during the 1600s, they were surprised to find so many trees. Some trees were so huge that a large man could not put his arms around them. Those trees helped the settlers a lot. They were glad and thankful to have these trees. They used them to build houses and make fire. From the wood of the trees, they made furniture, tools and so on.

Most people thought the forests would last forever. However, by 1800, America had its first wood shortage (短缺). How did it happen? People had not known that trees were being cut down faster than new ones could grow.

Some American people made trips to foreign countries. There they saw destroyed forests and learnt the importance of protecting forests. They came back to the United States and warned that if Americans didn't use trees more carefully and wisely, someday the forests would all be gone. However, people were not ready to listen. Years went by, and America's forests kept disappearing. It made some people really worried. But they did nothing.

Finally, J. Sterling Morton, the man who is remembered as the father of Arbor Day (过节), got people to listen. He named a Tree-Planting Day, or Arbor Day. He worked hard to make Arbor Day a national holiday. On that day, people usually plant a lot of trees.

    3. (3) What can we learn about Arbor Day?

A . It is a holiday on which most people do not work. B . Now only American people plant trees on Arbor Day. C . J. Sterling Morton is remembered as the father of Arbor Day. D . Arbor Day was J. Sterling Morton's birthday.

You may hear adults, especially your parents, ask you to spend less time in front of the screens. But at a camp called ID Tech, computers are the necessary tools for learning about robotics (机器人学) and video games.

Logan Doyle, 12, spent last week at this camp learning to write computer instructions for a video game he was creating. “l am trying to make the beginning of this game,” said Logan.

In the room, boys were playing a 3D racing video game. When they finished playing the game, they talked about what they liked and didn't like about the game. Then the camper who designed the game could make it better.

Their teacher, Will Whitney, said the kids were learning problem-solving. “Kids meet a problem and think of different ways to solve it,” said Whitney. Like a lot of the teachers at the camp, Whitney attended ID Tech camp while growing up. As a kid, he loved video games. He loved the camp so much that he attended it seven years ago. “It was always the height of my summer,” he said.

Like English and Maths, it is important to understand technology. It will be important to many jobs in the future. “Technology is everywhere in our society, said Jan Plane, a computer science professor at the University of Maryland. “Whatever field kids go into, having some knowledge of technology is going to make a difference.”

Do you find yourself studying the same page for fifteen minutes? Are you thinking of a TV show while doing your homework? If so, you may have a concentration problem.

Concentration is the ability to focus on a task at hand without being interrupted (打断) by other things. It can be of great benefit to us,but we don't always use it fully. Sounds, images, and unrelated thoughts are like heavy rocks in the road. When you move them away, your concentration can go on.

Luckily, concentration can be improved through training. Start by creating a space that's quiet and comfortable. Remove distractions such as TV or online chat programmes. For fewer interruptions, have everything you need at your desk. After a while, you can focus on your work easily.

Here are some other ways for you to have a try.

Do five more minutes. When you think you can't work anymore, just do five more minutes. You can stretch your attention span by pushing your limits a little bit at a time.

One “Think” a time. Stop juggling lots of things in your hand. Instead, set a time for thinking about a single task. For example, tell yourself, “I'll think about nothing but my task from 5:00 to 5:30.”

Do things immediately. Sometimes we don't feel like concentrating, so we put off work. Just ask yourself, “Will it get easier later?” and then you'll probably want to get it over with.

Use your hands as blinkers. Try keying things “out of sight, out of mind”. Cup your hands and focus only on what you are reading.

See as if for the first time. Look at each moment like it is the first or last time you'll see or experience it. By fully concentrating on the present, you won't miss a thing!

Concentration can help you get ahead in life. Use these tips and find out for yourself!

    1. (1) Why does someone study the same page for too long time?

A .      Because he or she likes that page very much. B .      Because the page has a very difficult problem. C . Because he or she doesn't want to read the page. D .      Because he or she has a concentration problem.
    2. (2) What does the underlined word (Paragraph 2) refer to?

      A . The hand. B . The task. C . The concentration. D . The ability.
    3. (3) What can we learn from the passage?

A .      A large room can make us focus on our task quickly. B . When you don't want to do a thing, just do it five more minutes. C .      Doing three things at a time is better than doing one. D .      Concentration can be improved even if we do nothing.
    4. (4) What's the main purpose of the passage?

A .      To give some tips on how to improve concentration. B .      To explain what concentration is in our life. C .      To encourage readers to make a better life. D .      To introduce how to create a perfect place for working.
