Students learn their lessons in class. In class 1 teach them. Students sit in the classroom listening to the teacher. This is a way of 2. Is this the 3 way for students to learn something? Of course not. There is 4 way to learn. Students can teach 5. For example, if you can't remember something 6 you are doing your homework, you can look at your book to find the 7. This is a way to teach yourself. And it is not a 8 thing. We can do this at any place and at any time.
How do you teach yourself? The first thing you must do is 9. Read something you are 10 in, or you have to read. The second is that you must ask yourself questions. The question is something you don't 11, or you want to know more about. You can write down these questions. A 12 student is usually good at asking questions. The 13 you must do is that you must answer the question yourself 14 thinking hard, by reading the text of other books, and 15 by asking other people. This is the way of teaching yourself. And you must do this by yourself. If you keep doing like this for a long time, you are sure to be successful in your study.
Some Students' Favourite Sports |
PE is difficult but I like it very much. I'm in our city sports club. The members in the club are all young, between 6 and 13 years old. I go to the club every Sunday. I do sports very hard. I want to be an Olympic champion. - Sally |
Running! Lots of people don't think it is exciting. However, I like running very much. I run every morning. Running isn't expensive, so anyone can run. Running is a good sport. Let's run together! - Alan |
Basketball is part of my life. I play basketball with my classmates on Saturday mornings. I watch basketball games on TV with my brother on Sunday evenings. I hope I can be a famous basketball player one day. My sister Laura doesn't like watching that. She likes tennis. - Frank |
Have you ever heard robot fish? Scientists will put some robot fish into the sea near Spain. These robot fish will help people to detect (探测) the pollution in the water. If the robot fish are able to finish their work successfully, the scientists hope to put them into rivers, lakes and seas around the world.
The fish are about 1.5 meters long. There will be a detector in their bodies. They can find the sources (来源) of pollution in the water, and then the robot fish will eat part of it. Unlike other robots, they don't need to be controlled by people far away. The robot fish all have an eight-hour battery (电池). They can "swim" in the sea freely and send back information to people on the beach. After their batteries die, they will return by themselves.
There are five robot fish altogether now. Each costs about 29,000 dollars. They are part of a three-year project between engineering company BMT Group and Essex University in southeastern England.
"We invented the robot fish creatively. We hope them can find the changes in the sea water and report back the information," said Professor Hu of Essex University. His team is developing the fish.
Children laugh often and easily. But as we grow up, we laugh less and maybe feel unhappier. Try laughing for no reason at all. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world, and many doctors now think that having a good laugh may be one of the best ways to stay healthy. The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in June, 1995 by Dr Madam Kataria. "Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day," says Dr Kataria, "Everyone's naturally good at laughing. We want people to feel happy with their lives." There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 all over the world.

Rob Frenette had problems with bullies (欺辱) at school for eleven years. He was often lonely and afraid. When he was fifteen, however, he decided to do something about his problems. He walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk to him about his experiences. They also wanted to hear his ideas to stop bullying.
After that, Rob continued his studies at school, but in his free time he helped other people with bullying problems. With a friend Katie Neu, he made a website called www.bullyingcanada.ca. Visitors to the website can find advice, stories and poems about bullying, in both English and French. When people are upset, they can talk on the phone or online to Rob and his team. Every weekend Rob has to answer e-mails to the website. He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government around the country about bullying.
Rob's most important message is: "When bullies are unkind to you, it isn't your fault. There's nothing wrong with you, so you should try to keep believing yourself. And remember that people care about your problems. You just have to find those people."
One of Rob's ideas is "Blue Day", a special day for stopping bullying in schools. Students have to wear blue clothes and in class they learn how to stop bullying. More than 150 Canadian schools now celebrate Blue Day, but Rob won't stop until there's a Blue Day in every school in Canada.
a. Rob and his friend made a website. b. Rob was bullied at school.
c. Rob created "Blue Day". d. Rob told his story in public.

There was an English speaking (比赛) in our province last year. I (参加) it because the top five students could visit Beijing for free. Visiting Beijing was one of my (梦想). I told myself I must take the chance. I began to (准备) for it from the day when my English teacher told me the news. First, I (写) about what kind of person I wanted to be. My English teacher helped me correct it. Second, I remembered it and practised speaking it every day. Third, I (邀请) my friends and teachers to listen to my speech. They gave me some good (建议).
After two months' hard work, I won the third (奖项). I was so proud of myself. Then the next month, two teachers and a (导游) took us to Beijing by train. We saw many (古老的) buildings. We had fun at Happy Valley and ate many kinds of Beijing snacks. I really had a good time in Beijing.
The experience is unforgettable. It proves that you can get what you want if you work hard.
Bruce lived in a small town in England. He lived (quiet) with his family. And he always spent his holidays in England, but last year he wanted to do something (difference), "I've never been outside this country. Many people say Spain has beautiful sunshine and fantastic (beach). Also, I can go to visit my cousin in Barcelona, I (not see) her since many years ago. So this year, I'm going there."
He went to Madrid, and stayed in a small hotel for some days. One day, he went out a walk. In England people drive on the left, in Spain they drive on the right. Bruce forgot about this. While he (cross) a busy street, a bike hit him down. The bike hit Bruce heavily that he lay on the ground for a few seconds. Then he sat up and said to (him), "Where am I?"
Just then old man came, he was selling maps next to him. As soon as he heard what Bruce said, he asked him at once, "Map of the city, sir?"
If you want to have a wonderful holiday, you can visit Kingston. It's a famous Canadian city on the bank of Lake Ontario. It is about three hours' trip by bus from Kingston to Toronto. There are some famous universities in Kingston. About 25,000 students study in these universities. Queen's University, founded in 1841, is the most famous universities in Kingston. Kingston is one of the friendliest cities in the world and it welcomes tourists from all over the world. Wherever tourists go in this city, they will see a warm smile on the street or hear a happy "hello" in a public park. It's easy for them to feel at home.
