Sometimes, you might not finish drinking your glass of water before you go to bed. You might want to drink it the next morning. But have you ever wondered if it is still safe to drink?

"If you have clean water in a clean glass, you're fine to drink it for a day or two," Kellogg Schwab from the Johns Hopkins University Water Institute in the US told Time.

But you may find that it tastes strange. That's because after about 12 hours, the carbon dioxide in the air reacts with the water in your glass, slightly lowering its pH level.

Also, there might be more microorganisms in your water if you leave it out overnight. Microorganisms grow more quickly at room temperature. These microorganisms can stick to your glass. They can make you get sick more easily. But as long as you clean your glasses very often, this will not be a problem.

In countries like the US and UK, people often drink water directly from the tap. This is OK—however, tap water cannot be stored for a long time. Most experts say that tap water has a shelf life of six months, according to Zane Satterfield from West Virginia University, US. After six months, there is less chlorine in the water and bacteria start to grow. You'd better not drink the water otherwise you may get sick.

What about plastic water bottles? Schwab said people should be careful with them. If you leave a bottle of water under the sun or in a car for a long period of time, the plastic produces a chemical called BPA. This chemical can cause heart disease and cancer.

    1. (1) According to the passage, the water in the glass tastes strange after about_______.
      A . 12 hours B . 2 hours C . a day and a night D . two days
    2. (2) Why does the water taste strange after a night?
A . Because there is less chlorine in the water. B . Because the glasses are dirty after a night. C . Because the plastic produces a chemical called BPA D . Because the carbon dioxide in the air reacts with the water, lowering its pH level.
    3. (3) The underlined word "microorganisms" in the fourth paragraph probable mean "________".
      A . 漂浮物 B . 微生物 C . 抗生素 D . 废弃物
    4. (4) Which of the following is not true?
A . You may get sick more easily after you drink the water overnight. B . It's not a right way to leave a bottle of water under the sun for a long time. C . Many people drink water directly from the tap because of no bacteria in the running water. D . Kellogg Schwab advised us to drink clean water in a clean glass for a day or two.

Earlier this year, China achieved a new milestone in space exploration. On Jan 3, Chang'e 4 became the first space probe in history to successfully land on the far side of the moon, People's Daily reported.
From Earth, we can only see one side of the moon. The other side has been a mystery. Scientists have long wondered what lies on this side of the moon.

Chang'e 4 has sent back photos of the far side of the moon. It is also being used to carry out experiments, such as growing seeds in a low-gravity environment. The data collected from these experiments could be used to help us build a base on the moon in the future.
The success of the Chang'e 4 mission is a major achievement for China's space program. It marks a new stage in China's deep space exploration, said Wu Yanhua, deputy head of China National Space Administration.
China launched its lunar exploration program in 2004, naming it Chang'e. Chinese scientists set three goals—"orbiting, landing and sample returning" – referring to launching probes that could circle around the moon, touch down on its surface and bring lunar materials back to Earth.
Chang'e 4 has realized the second goal. The third will be achieved during the Chang'e 5 mission , which is set to take place before the end of this year, China Daily reported.
Following the success of the Chang'e missions, Chinese scientists are looking even farther into our solar system. China's first Mars mission is expected to be carried out by 2020, Wu said.
In addition to the first-ever soft landing on the far side of the moon, the Chang'e 4 mission has achieved many other firsts. One of them is international cooperation and joint exploration. The experiments will provide valuable data for the scientists.

    1. (1) What does the underlined "it" refer to in Paragraph 4?
      A . The Chang'e 4 probe. B . A base on the moon in the future. C . China's space program. D . The success of the Chang'e 4 mission.
    2. (2) What is Chang'e 5 expected to do?
A . Circle around the moon. B . Land on the surface of the moon. C . Bring lunar materials back to Earth. D . Send people to the moon.
    3. (3) What can we infer from the story?
A . Chang'e 4 has discovered the secrets of the far side of the moon. B . China's space exploration program started 15 years ago. C . China has not launched any space probes to Mars so far. D . Chang'e 5 will be China's last lunar exploration program.

A few years ago national attention was fixed on a deep, dark cave in the mountains near where I live now. A team had entered the cave to do some research. Although every precaution had been taken to make it safe, one young man was separated from the team and lost in the depths of the cave.

For several days a rescue team worked around the clock, searching almost everywhere in the underground cave. With each passing hour chance of finding the young man inside the cave became smaller, and people had a lot of guesses. Perhaps he had simply run away. Or maybe he had stumbled out some other entrance and was now lost in the mountains. Or perhaps he was already... well, nobody wanted to say it. But everybody thought it. Everybody, that is, except the young man's parents.

"That wasn't a choice in our opinion," the young man's mother said." Finally we would find himsafe and alive. We were certain of that."

There was little reason to those who were familiar with the cave said it had been completely searched-several times. Common sense suggested that time was running out and that other choices needed to be consideredlike when to say "enough".

But like Kris Kringle says in his famous book A Miracle on 34th Street, "Faith is believing in something even when common sense tells you not to do." And the young man's parents had faith. They wouldn't give up, and they wouldn't let anyone else give up, either. And sure enough, the young man was foundhungry, thirst and afraid, but healthy.

How did the young man manage to stay a live in the cave?

"I've never stopped believing that someone would find me," said the young man.

    1. (1) The young man got lost probably because___________.
A . he got separated from the team B . he wanted to enter the cave alone C . he did research in the cave alone D . he had an important discovery
    2. (2) What does the underlined word " That" in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A . Staying inside the cave. B . Giving up searching. C . Making more guesses. D . Looking for the man in the mountains.
    3. (3) Which can be the best title for the text?
A . The Power of Believing B . A Dangerous Cave C . The Way to Stay Alive in a Cave D .   Parents' Love
    4. (4) Why did the parents and the son think "he" can still be alive? Why can you learn from the story?
