Welcome to my blog Wendy King Friday, June 21 Today I went to the beach. The sea looked so beautiful. It made me think of great family holidays when I was a child. We always went to the beach for a week in summer. I remembered playing games with my sister and crying when I couldn't have any ice cream. Oh, and I remembered finding a huge jellyfish on the beach. We ran away quickly because we were afraid of it! What thing from your childhood do you remember? |

I remember going for long walks in the countryside. I guess I was only eight or nine. In winter, my mom made a big meal, and I still remember the wonderful smell! When we got home, I always couldn't fall asleep. Carla, Mexico June 28 |
What a great story! I remember going to the beach, too—on Christmas Day! My family lived in Australia when I was young. We always got up early. After we opened our presents, we always went to the beach and played games there. Lisa, Hong Kong July 11 |
The best thing is my trip around Europe. I had the trip with my uncle, Sam. We visited three countries—England, Germany and Spain. We took a lot of photos and enjoyed ourselves. Daisuke, Japan July 26 |
China isn't well known for its science fiction films, but recently a new film called The Wandering Earth has become a great success. It has earned over $697 million worldwide. It tells an amazing story of the Earth in danger, along with exciting scenes of spaceships and outer space.
The Wandering Earth is based on a story by Liu Cixin. In the story, the sun was dying out, people all around the world worked together to move Earth out of the solar system and sail Earth to a new star system. The film began with the early life of a young boy who was born just after the project started. The engineers pushed Earth away and built underground cities that were vast enough for all the other humans to live in. Yet the 2500 years' journey came with all kinds of dangers. In order to save the humans, a group of young people came out and fought hard for the planet.
China is playing an increasingly important part in the film industry. Its growing middle class has seen the rise of film market across the country, and Chinese viewers have become an important part of film industry. Hollywood Projects like Iron Man 3 specifically filmed more scenes in China for its market. Chinese film industry is keeping growing. Just as Americans want to get into the Chinese market, Chinese filmmakers are looking for the way to the international market.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Wandering Earth is China's "first space" film. Chinese science fiction writer, Anna Wu, says science fiction "is a new challenge for the Chinese film industry." Some Chinese filmmakers have achieved a great success at this kind of film, but most of them still have a long way to go.
Still, Wu notes that within China, "Not all the science fiction films have had success. It still takes time to accept science fictions, and that with the development of our country, people are getting busier, wealthier and more stressed," which creates a perfect environment for this new kind of film and television. The Wandering Earth, she says, is a good example. "I also care about the money it earns, which will affect the future of Chinese science fiction films."

After years of research and testing, the hybrid car was developed and put on the market. It's an interesting and exciting new improvement in today's world as we look for better ways to protect the quality of the air we breathe and save our natural resources.
The quality of our air is affected by many different things. But one of the largest sources of air pollution is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and gasoline which is used to power a car's engine. The EPA has set national standards to help control the level of harmful pollutants sent off into the air, and the automobile industry has acted by producing a hybrid car that uses less gas and therefore causes less pollution.
A hybrid car is a combination of a regular car that runs on gasoline and an electric car that is battery powered. Some people tend to think that since the hybrid car is partially electric, you have to plug it in to charge it. But that's not how it works. The 144 volt battery pack is actually recharged through the energy that is produced when the car's brakes are used. This is referred to as "regenerative braking", because it produces electricity.
Although the hybrid car still runs on gasoline most of the time, this helps it use less gas than a regular car. When the driver stops at a traffic light, the engine automatically shuts off to save fuel. Then, as soon as the driver puts the car in gear and touches the gas pedal, the engine starts back up.
Have you ever ridden in a car with someone who ran out of gas? That probably wouldn't happen if you were riding in a hybrid car. It flashes a warning on its computer screen that says, "I am low on gas". When it completely runs out, the warning reads, "YOU ARE NOW OUT OF GAS!" Then the electric power supply kicks in to let the driver travel a few more miles to a gas station.
Notre Dame Cathedral fire on Monday caused waves of sympathy in China, but it reminds some Chinese Internet users of destruction of Old Summer Palace (Yuanming Yuan). During the Second Opium War in October 1860, British and French troops marched into Beijing's Old Summer Palace, known as the Garden of Perfect Brightness (of Yuanming Yuan). The destruction was accompanied by widespread looting by both British and French troops.
The palace was regarded as the home of the most beautiful collection of architecture and art in the country and its destruction has long been regarded as a shameful wound by many Chinese.
"Honestly, I feel bad that 800-year-old architecture was set on fire and it was a loss for the whole mankind, but I find it hard to have pity on it with the French people," wrote one Weibo user, who called himself "minister of martial orders."
"This easily reminded me of the Yuanming Yuan being burned down by the British and French armies, which was more valuable than Notre Dame. There is a karmic cycle and who has heaven ever forgiven?"
The post was liked more than 23,000 times, and attracted 7,500 comments.
Another Internet user said: "It serves them right… weren't they pleased when they burned down the Yuanming Yuan? I don't sympathise but can only say well-done.
Even state news agency Xinhua joined the debate, publish a commentary on its website comparing the fire at the cathedral to the torching of the royal palace.
"Chinese people relate to the hurt feelings of lost treasure experienced by the French people. Today, when the whole world is sad about the falling down of the tower of Notre Dame, please don't forget that after Yuanming Yuan was looted and burned a hundred years ago, China was heart-broken alone," the commentary, later removed from the website, said.
The fire is not only a tragedy for France but also a loss for mankind. It is narrow-minded to rain hatred on something innocent. We should remember the shame but let go of the hatred," a commentary on its CCTV.com website read.
China's President Xi Jinping also joined a host of world leaders in sending a message of condolence to French President Macron.

Pigs Teach Us about Life
China and Western countries may have different cultural beliefs about certain animals, but when it comes to pigs, we have reached a(an) (同意) —that pigs are ugly, lazy and stupid.
