A few years ago, a little boy, not more than eight years old, went to the store himself.
While he was going home, a dirty dog followed him. The dog was weak because it had a sore leg. After he found the dog was badly , he let it follow him home.
The little boy's mother taught him to be and friendly. However, when the little boy asked his mother he would let the dog come into the house or not, she hesitated (犹豫)."We have no room for it," said she. The poor dog seemed to understand she said. It looked so sad! The little boy almost cried when he saw the dog's big looking up to him sadly.
His mother was actually kind, too. She did not drive the poor hungry dog away, but let it in the yard. The little boy gave the dog some , water and clean dry grass to lie on. They also made it clean.
After a few days the dog was with the help of the boy and his mother. It began to show how happy and thankful it was. Because their kindness, the dog finally found a home. It did what a dog could do to be a helpful family member.

In many countries around the world, May 1st is a holiday which is called Labor Day or Workers' Day. It is an interesting holiday that honors working people and their jobs. But do you know how it started?
During the late 1880s, in many parts of the world, people worked for fourteen to sixteen hours a day in factories, but made very little money. Later, in the United States and Canada, working people got together to set up unions (工会). The union leaders asked factory bosses for shorter working time and higher salaries (工资), but many of the bosses ▲ .
On May 1st, 1886, men and women in the United States and Canada stopped working and went onto the streets. They walked through cities and towns to force bosses to let them work eight hours a day. In the city of Chicago, several people died in fighting with the police. Over the next few years, people in cities around the world stopped working on May 1st to honor workers everywhere. By the early twentieth century, the first of May became a national holiday in many countries.
However, in the United States and Canada, May 1st is not a holiday. North Americans celebrate Labor Day on the first Monday in September. Today in the United States, Labor Day is mostly about having fun. People enjoy a long weekend and often celebrate it by having picnics with friends or family. In many parts of the United States, Labor Day is also the last day of summer vacation, and students return to school the next day.
①Working people began to fight for better life.
②People stopped working on May 1st to honor workers.
③Working people set up unions.
People send birthday greetings by using cards in both eastern and western countries. It is not known when and where exactly the tradition of sending birthday cards began. It is believed that it began in England in the early nineteenth century. In those days people sent birthday cards when they couldn't wish somebody a happy birthday in person.
In 1840 the first stamp was used in Britain and sending birthday cards became easier, cheaper and more popular. The development of color printing processes (工艺流程) in the 1930s also helped to increase sales of birthday cards.
Today cards are often given with a present, even when people can express their wishes face to face. In recent times e-cards have also become popular. Many people are starting to use e-cards instead of traditional cards because they are free, environmentally friendly and easy to arrive. So will e-cards take place of paper cards completely in ten or twenty years? Probably not. For example, for kids and old people, they don't use e-cads very often.
If our birthday is coming soon, do you wish that at least one person could congratulate you with a beautiful card then?
A. I'm sure you will join us in the next game B. The following ways might help C. Use a soft friendly voice D. This gives the listener time to prepare for what you will say E. People like to know why things go wrong |
It's easy to tell someone good news, but what about bad news? Are there any good ways to give bad news without making people too upset? .
★Say something good. Try to start the conversation with something good so that what you say is not all bad. For example," I know you play soccer very well, but we only need one teammate." Or you may end the conversation with a promise. "."
★Prepare your listener for the news. Use words to introduce what you're going to say, like "I'm really sorry, but..."or "I'm afraid I've got some bad news." .
★Try to give a reason. . Try to explain the decision: if you have to cancel a trip with friends, can you explain why?
★. If you're giving someone bad news, try to use a soft friendly voice to make you sound kind. Say things to show you understand, like "I'm really sorry. I know this must be disappointing."
A. The museum rules B. The most popular room C. A noisy museum D. Many different rooms E. A free museum |
⑴The most unusual museum in London is the Science Museum. In most museums, there's no shouting and no running, and people aren't allowed to touch the exhibits (陈设品). But the Science Museum is different. It's noisy! People can talk about what they will see and do there, and some of the machines are noisy as well.
⑵When I visit the Science Museum, I go to the Launchpad (发射台). This is the most popular room because there are lots of physics tests. We can also learn how astronauts travel into space and back again here. I'm really interested in those kinds of things, so it is my favorite room.
⑶On the second floor there is Human and Nature room. We can compare our speed with animals there. If we aren't quick enough, the lion will catch us! There are also rooms on transport, the environment and space technology, as well as math, physics and chemistry.
⑷We can do a lot of things in this museum, but we have to obey some rules as well. For example, we mustn't take photos of the exhibits in the museum. But we can buy postcards of them in the museum shops.
⑸Most important of all, the Science Museum is free. That means we can drop by for a few minutes or we can stay as long as we like—it's open from 10: 00 a. m. to 6: 00 p. m.every day except Monday. So if you go to London, make sure you visit the Science Museum. It's my favorite museum in the whole world.
The Science Museum in Opening times: 10: 00 a. m.-6: 00p. m. every day except Fees (费用): It's ! Stay inside as long as you like! Rules: Don't of the exhibits. You can buy postcards of them. You can what you see and do. Don't worry about making noises. |
Four good friends Mouse, Crow, Turtle and Deer lived in the forest. Every day they met at the lake and told each other interesting stories.
One day Deer did not come to the lake to drink water.
The other three were worried.
"I saw a hunter (猎人) in the forest this morning," said Crow. "I'm afraid Deer might be hurt."
"Fly over the forest, Crow," said Mouse. "Please see if you can find our friend Deer."
It took him a few minutes before Crow saw Deer caught in a trap (陷阱) made of ropes. He flew back right away to ask the other two for help. When they arrived, Mouse and Crow began to break the ropes. Turtle kept talking to Deer to help her feel better.
Just then, the hunter came to check his trap. "Everyone, leave now," said Turtle.
Deer at once ran away with Mouse. Turtle just lifted a foot up when the hunter got close.
"My trap is empty," said the hunter. "But, a turtle is better than nothing. I will eat turtle soup tonight." The hunter picked Turtle up and started for home.
"Now we all must help our friend Turtle," said Deer.
Deer lay down on the way. She seemed dead. Crow flew and landed on Deer's head. The hunter saw Deer so he put Turtle down to get Deer. As soon as the hunter left Turtle, Mouse ran up and helped Turtle hide in the forest. Deer jumped up and ran off .The hunter went back to get Turtle, but he found him gone. "How scary! There is magic here," he said to himself in great fear. Then he rushed out of the forest and never came back again.
There was magic in the forest that day. That magic was called friendship.
