I asked my mother to help me clean it, 6 she still said, "Do it yourself, girl."
Because of my "lazy mother", I had to wash my clothes and clean my room. I had to help my parents do7 I even had to go to the dentist by myself. It was really hard for me to do everything well, but I 8 a lot.

Miss Green was sad. She took her favourite orchid(兰花)to school to show her students. She left the flower in the classroom, but later it was gone. Three students were still in the room. (One of them must be the thief(小偷).
Two of her students, Max and Nina, decided to help her find who did it.
The first student they talked to was Maria. "I have a cold," she said." I cannot even speak."
Patrick was standing next to Maria. "Megan and Maria had already been in the room when I arrived," he said quickly. "I didn't see the orchid."
Megan, who was known to love pretty flowers best, was the next to answer their questions.
"Of course it wasn't me," she said to Max and Nina. "I have two orchids at home. I just stopped by to put a book on my desk. Maria was already in the room."
"So how can you explain that, Maria?" Nina asked.
"After I practised singing, I stopped to get my notebook, "Maria whispered(小声说). "I'll have a concert tomorrow. I didn't take the orchid."
Nina and Max had a quick conversation with Miss Green and said, "We think we know who took the orchid."

I found the summer vacation was not as interesting as I imagined. It was very hot, so I had to spend most of the time staying at home, watching TV, listening to the radio and playing with my dog. Sometimes, I went to visit my grandparents.
Helen, New York
I went to the countryside with my family and stayed there for about two weeks. The air there was clean. Every day, we fed the chickens, milked the cows, played with the dogs and went fishing. We enjoyed ourselves very much. We wanted to go there again.

My summer vacation was great. I went to Switzerland with my friends and stayed there for a week. It wasn't very hot there. We went to climb the Alps. We felt very tired but excited. We also saw some beautiful lakes, went boating and took many photos.
Mr Jones was ninety, so it was difficult for him to remember things. But he still liked travelling very much, so he and his wife went to Spain for a holiday every year. (One summer when they were there, they went to visit some friends. One of them had two daughters.
One afternoon Mr Jones was talking with one of the girls in the garden after lunch. "You and your sister were badly ill when my wife and I were here last year, weren't you?" He said to her.
"Yes, we were," answered the girl. "We were badly ill." The old man said nothing for a moment, because he was thinking. Then at last he said, "Oh, yes, I remember now! One of you died. Which one of you was it, you or your sister?"
The girl answered, "It was me."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," said the old man.
Mr Jones was too to remember things. He and his wife went to Spain to a holiday. When they were in Spain, they some of their friends. One afternoon when Mr Jones was with one of his friend's daughters, he remembered that the girl and her sister were badly ill last year. But he couldn't remember who died. The girl played a on him and told him that she died last year.
Spending time in a bookshop can be enjoyable. If you go to a good bookshop, no assistant(店员)will come near to you and say, "Can I help you? "You needn't buy anything you don't want. If you want to find some books, the assistant will lead you there and then he or she will go away. He or she seems not to be interested in selling any books at all.
There is a story about a good bookshop. A student wanted to buy a very useful book in the bookshop. But it was too expensive for him to buy. So every afternoon, he went there to read a little at a time. (One day, however, he couldn't find the book from its usual place. He was leaving when he saw an assistant signing(示意)to him. He was surprised that the assistant pointed to the book in the corner. "I put it there so that people couldn't see it or buy it," said the assistant. Then he left the student to go on with his reading.
