Peter and Jack came to my house one afternoon in January, 2018. They encouraged me to try a 200-kilometre bike ride. It was an event to 1 money for disabled children. I thought the idea seemed 2 —to support the unlucky children while riding for a long distance.
It began on a Sunday morning, and for the 3 few hours, I felt wonderful. But by the end of the day, I felt 4 and bored and really wanted to give up. Every excuse I could think of seemed to be good enough for me to give up the ride.
"I can't continue the ride, and everyone else is a 5 rider than me." I thought and I was almost out of breath. I was sure I'd have to 6. Then I noticed that a rider in front of me looked 7 in some ways. But he was too far away for me to 8 why.
And so I pushed myself to catch up. There he was, riding alone slowly but steadily, with a determined smile on his 9. He had only one leg!
My focus changed at that moment. For a whole day, I was doubting my body, but now, I had the will that would help me 10 my aim.
The following events are moments in the 40 years of China's reform and opening up (改革开放40周年).
One day, Akbar decided to test how wise Birbal was. He took his ring off his finger and handed it to one of his courtiers (侍臣). Akbar said to him, "You must hide this ring safely with you. Make sure that no one can find it."
As soon as Birbal came to the palace, Akbar said. "Birbal, I lost my ring this morning. It was given to me by my father. Do whatever you want, but you have to find my ring soon."
Birbal asked Akbar to give him more information, but Akbar didn't say much. He kepp on repeating, "I don't remember anything at all. You must find my ring." Finally, Birbal said, "All right, Your Majesty (陛下)! I will find your ring soon."
Birbal closed his eyes and pretended (假装) to think for a while. And then he said, "Your Majesty, your ring is somewhere here in this palace. It is with one of the courtiers. The courtier has a grain of rice in his beard."
The courtier was worried. Hearing Birbal's words, he quickly moved his hand over his beard. Birbal's eyes fixed on the behaviour of the courtier. Pointing towards him, Birbal said, "Your Majesty, this courtier stole your ring."
Akbar was surprised. He didn't understand how Birbal had succeeded in finding his ring. But once again, Akbar accepted the fact that Birbal was very wise.
①Birbal came to the palace.
②The courtier touched his beard.
③Akbar gave his ring to the courtier.
④Birbal pointed to the courtier.

This is a conversation between a human "user" and a computer. The computer was made to be as human as possible. It was taught to talk to humans. It has also learnt from what people have said to it. This has helped it become more human.
What makes George talk is called Jabberwacky. It won the Loebner Prize not long ago. The prize is a contest to find the most realistic artificial intelligence (现实的人工智能). In 2006, scientists talked to the computer. They typed questions to it, and it answered.
Jabberwacky first appeared in 1982. It has been gelling better every year since then. The list of things that the computer says to a human is getting bigger and bigger. It means the computer has more things to say when you talk to it.
It is hoped that a computer like this will do our jobs in call centres. When Jabberwacky is more realistic, this will be possible.
To love, to enjoy and to learn English was the theme (主题) of English Week this year. In order to improve students' interest in learning English, different activities came out during the week. All our members really did a great job and we tried our best to make it a success. We had a Treasure Hunt, Film Shows, Language Games, English Cafe, Book Club, Storyboard, Public Speaking and Book Sharing. All of them were interesting and educational activities.
To improve English in fun ways, this year we tried another way, the Rap (说唱) Show. Six students took part in the activity of writing raps. Doesn't it sound great? Their show was amazing! They were just like the famous rapping, rapping and dancing confidently. For me, it was really an amazing experience.
December 21st was a great day for the Rap Show. All classes came to the school hall. The activity started with a funny story by our student helpers. The classes then took turns to perform. All of them prepared interesting words. The show by students from Wisdom and Hope was the best.
All your support has given us the energy to do better next time. I hope you will take part in the future activities held by the English Club.
This year, Model United Nations (MUN) has become a hot topic in Futian middle schools because every school has founded an MUN club. The young members discussed some global issues like children's education and water problems. The 2018 Futian MUN Youth Conference (会议) took place in Futian Shixia School on December 18th. About 60 student delegates (代表) from thirteen junior high schools came together to listen, present, debate, and offer solutions to our planet's most serious problem. The theme was carbon emissions (碳排量) and global climate.
In the Futian MUN, a team of four named Beyond, from Futian Foreign Language School, attended this conference as one of the 14 teams from Futian schools. This team entered two rounds of MUN competitions before reaching the final. During the meeting, they played the role of British delegates. They made speeches and debated how to reduce Carbon emission. They exchanged ideas with student delegates from other teams. They worked hard to find solutions to the global climate problems.
MUN offers a fantastic program to the youth worldwide. It provides the students a platform to improve their English, critical (批判的) thinking and communicative skills. In MUN, student delegates step into the shoes of ambassador (大使) from UN member countries to debate the latest problems. Any student can take part in MUN, as long as they have the dream to learn something new and to work with people to try and make a difference in the world.
