Here are Timmy's diaries.
Monday, 25th July Today I started making our school farm in teams of five. Jack, Mary, Becky, Laura and I work in the same team. First we made a house for the 1. We put some wooden bars(木条)in the house 2 chickens like to sleep above(在...上方)the ground. Then we 3 a nest(窝)box for the chickens to lay(下蛋)their eggs in. We had a lot of fun. Tuesday, 26th July Today our team went to the farm again. Luckily, there were 4 eggs in the nest box. We took one each. Jack asked me, "Did you eat a fresh farm 5 before?" "No," I said. "I'm looking forward to(期待)eating it for my breakfast tomorrow." Then we 6 the chicken house and put in some clean and fresh straw(稻草). Chickens always like to have a clean house. Wednesday, 27th July For 7, I had a boiled egg this morning. I 8 ate fresh farm egg before. It was 9! I wanted to have more! I told Jack about it. "I don't want to eat supermarket eggs again," I said. "I don't either. 10 egg was delicious, too." he said. |
You have grown too tall for your clothes from last year. Your shoes are too small for your feet. You are also too old now for some of your toys(玩具). What will you do with them?
Don't just put old toys under the bed. No one can play with them there. You can give them to children who will enjoy the toys. You can give them to a children's hospital. Little girls and boys who are ill will enjoy playing with them.
Maybe you and your friends want to buy something new for yourselves. If so, you can get all your old toys and have a big yard sale(庭院售卖)!
Ask a parent to help you. Make big signs(标志)about your sale. Hang the signs around the neighborhood. On the day of your sale, shoppers will come. Some will buy your old toys. Then you can have fun thinking about what new toys to buy.
Tommy hated school and was always looking for excuses(借口)not to go. If he sneezed(打喷嚏), he asked his mother to write to his teacher saying he had a cold. If he had a headache(头痛), he asked his mother to take him to the doctor during school hours. He spent more time at home than he did at school. On the days that he did go to school, he looked for excuses to come home early.
One day he came home from school in the middle of the morning. His father was surprised.
"You're home early," he said. "Is the school finished today?"
"No, dad," Tommy said. "I came home early."
"How did you do that?" his father asked him. "What did you say to the teacher?"
"I told her that I had a new baby brother and that I had to come home and help you."
"But your mother has had twins(双胞胎)," his father said, "a boy and a girl. You've got a baby brother and a baby sister."
"Yes, I know, Dad," Tommy said, "I'm saving up my baby sister for next week."
Annie Sullivan had a hard life. She grew up alone and very poor. Annie had trouble with her eyes, too. She could not see well.
One day after Annie grew up, a family called her. They needed help with their daughter. Their little daughter's name was Helen Keller. Helen needed a teacher.
Helen could not see. She could not hear, either. She felt scared and lonely(孤独的). Annie wanted to help Helen. She wanted to be able to talk to her.
Annie tried to teach Helen a sign language, a way to make words with hands. But Helen did not know what Annie tried to teach her.
One day near the outside water pump, Annie had an idea. She put one of Helen's hands in the water. Then Annie let Helen feel W-A-T-E-R on her other hand again and again and again.
At last, Helen knew. She learned that what she was feeling had a name. Helen was on her way to a lifetime of learning.

I'll never forget the first time I left my home for more than one or two nights. I was 11 years old, and I was going to a (夏天)camp for one month. When my parents first told me about the camp, I thought it was (令人激动的). There were all kinds of activities: swimming, baseball and even horseback riding. My mom helped me with (每件事情)I needed for the camp.
The whole family (开车)me to the camp. When we arrived, I saw a lot of kids, but I didn't know anyone! I began to feel (可怕的). They gave me a little card with my name on it. At last the time came when my mom and dad said, "Well, Margie, goodbye. Don't (担心). And have a great time. We'll (经常)call you."
I had a (特别的)feeling and wanted to cry. But just then (另一个)girl my age came up to me and said. "Hi, are you Margie? I'm Tammy. Come on, let's go see (马)." So off we went, and I had a wonderful month at camp.
Today's story is about Zhu Hui, a student from Shenzhen. He's now studying in the United States. He's living with an (America) family in New York. Today is the Dragon Boat Festival. It's 9:00 a.m. and Zhu Hui's family (be) at home. His mom and aunt (make) zongzi. (He) dad and uncle are watching the boat races on TV.
Is Zhu Hui watching the races and eating zongzi? Well, it's 9:00 p.m. in New York, and it's the night before the festival. But there isn't a Dragon Boat Festival in the US, so it's like any night for Zhu Hui and his host family. The mother is reading a story to her young (child). The father is watching a soccer game on TV. And what's Zhu Hui doing? He's talking the phone to his cousin in Shenzhen. Zhu Hui (miss) his family and wishes to have his mom's delicious zongzi. Zhu Hui likes New York and his host family a lot, there's still "no place like home."
House fires are the cause of about 90% of the fire deaths. At least one child dies in a house fire every day. And 293 children are injured(伤害)by fire.
77% of the families don't have a house fire escape(逃离)map. But such a map can help you escape a house fire. Fire can spread(蔓延)quickly through a house. You only have about two minutes to escape. If you live in a tall building and can't escape, remember not to jump. Go to the windows and wave(挥舞)something colorful, like a red shirt.
