My 6-year-old granddaughter Caitlin and I stopped at a food shop for a chocolate cake. As we were going out the door, a young boy was coming in.
This young man had no hair on the sides of his head and a tuft of (一簇) blue hair on top. He wore a chain (链子) that ran across half of his face. He took a skateboard under his right arm and a basketball under the left arm.
Caitlin, who was walking in front of me, stopped when she saw the boy. I thought she would be afraid of him. But I was wrong. She stood against the door and opened it as wide as it would go. I stopped and let the boy pass. He was thankful and said: "Thank you very much."
On our way to the car, I talked with Caitlin about keeping the door open for the boy. I wanted to make sure whether she was afraid. But the only thing Caitlin watched about the boy was that his arms were full. "He couldn't open the door because he took things in his hands."
I saw the shaved head, the blue hair, and the chain. She saw a person carrying something under each arm and walking towards a closed door.
In the future, I hope to see things in different ways.
If someone says to you: "give me five", do not search your pocket to get five yuan! It will make others laugh! The person's not asking for your money, but your fingers.
In the US, "give me five" or "give me the high five" is a popular gesture (动作). You can see it often in films or on TV. It means the clapping (拍) of each other's raised right hands together.
People do it when they meet for the first time or something happy happens. For example, a student has good marks in exams or wins a lottery ticket (彩票).If a football team wins a game, the players will give high fives to everyone around to celebrate.
This gesture may come from the old Roman gesture of raising the right arm for the emperor to show respect. This also showed that the person raising his arm did not have a sword (刀) in his hand.
Why not try to give the high five to your friends?

Come to class rested.
When your body is well taken care of, your mental(精神的)focus will be much better. If you come to class sleepy or tired, it may be impossible for you to keep your eyes open and concentrate(集中)on what the teacher is saying.
Have everything you need at the start of the class. If you have homework, make sure you are ready to hand it in. Bring out your notebook and pen so you can start taking down notes. Also, try to read your textbooks before coming into class. It will help you understand more easily what your teacher is talking about.
When you're in the front of the class, you'll have an easier time hearing what the teacher has to say. You won't have a daydream when the teacher is near you.
Take down notes.
Write down what you hear in class. It will also make you concentrate more on what is being said so you can properly take notes. Try to concentrate when you are in class so that you are able to get the key points during a lecture.

It was a Christmas night. I was an unlucky nurse who had to work on such a beautiful festival. When I was complaining(抱怨)about it, three people appeared at my desk-a tired woman and her two children, a son and a daughter.
"Are you all sick?" I asked doubtfully because they seemed all right.
"Yes," the woman answered weakly and lowered her head.
But when they started to present their problems, things became unclear. The daughter had a fever, but her temperature was OK. The son had an earache, but he couldn't tell me which ear hurt. It seemed that the mother was pretending(假装)to cough.
Something was wrong. But I only explained that it might take a while before a doctor could meet them. "Take your time, please," said the mother. I checked their charts-no address. All of a sudden I knew they were homeless while the hospital was warm.
The family huddled(蜷缩)together under the Christmas tree, smiling and talking with each other sweetly. Quietly, I went back to the nurses' station and told them what happened in the waiting room. It was just like God sending us a gift on this Christmas night. The nurses' station suddenly came back to life. All the nurses went into action for "a Christmas emergency(急诊)".
We took out our meals for our Christmas "patients". We also put together oranges and apples as presents. We tried to exceed(超过)the needs of a family who only wanted a warm place on Christmas night. Later, the little girl kissed me and said, "Thanks for being our angel."
Last Thursday was Day. Students the festival in many ways for their teachers. Some of them bought flowers and small gifts teachers, while others gave teachers some cards with their best wishes. Some students even gave performances, like singing and dancing. But no matter they did it was their love for their teachers. All the teachers felt on that day.
