Do you think the people who use smart phones all the time are relaxed? A research shows that too much smart phone use in spare time can make people more stressed out.
So what can we do in order to really take advantage of our spare time? We have collected the following activities that also take a few hours to complete, but you'll improve your health in the process (过程).
Whether you're at home or on holiday, it's important to disconnect from the Wi-Fi. Walking in nature can do good to your health. As a professional(职业的)traveler, Samantha Brown put it in a recent passage, "I put my map in my back pocket, put down my phones and take a good, long walk. Just walk around."
Go to bed earlier. What can help improve your mood? Extra sleep, naturally. Getting the right amount of sleep is very important to our health and studies show that we don't get enough of it.
Read a book. And let yourself get lost in a good story. Research shows that reading can reduce(减轻) stress, keep your brain sharp and can even help you sleep better. Everyone should spend at least 30 minutes reading every day.
Putting pen to paper is a good exercise. Try writing down your thoughts. Writing has a lot of health advantages. Besides, writing down your thoughts may even help clear your mind.
Football is so popular in China. Almost everyone is interested in this sport—the young and the old, boys and girls, and now even robots.
Recently at Hangzhou Guangming Middle School, kids from several schools played football with their robots.
Robot football is very different from human football. Only two robots play in each match. The field is as big as a ping pong table. One half is black and the other is white. Each robot tries to catch the "football" and score a goal. The robot with more goals wins.
Gao Linge, a boy from Hangzhou Guangming Middle School, helped make one of the robots for the match.
"My school bought the main board (主板),"said Gao, 14. "Then I decided what my robot looked like and made a computer program for it."
Gao's robot was eight centimeters tall and had two arms. It had four sensors (传感器) to "see" and "kick" the "football".
Ying Xuehai, a 12-year-old student from Gao's school, also made a robot. His robot played against Gao's. The match decided who would go to the final game. Ying lost the game. So he gave many of his robot's parts to Gao.
Even so, Gao's robot didn't win the final. It played well in the first five minutes. Then it slowed down. By the end of the match, it could hardly move. What was wrong? Gao and Ying found the problem—the robot ran out of batteries (电池)!
"We'll solve the problem and beat the other schools next time!" said the two boys.
Americans and Chinese have quite different views about how to treat friends.
Friendships between Americans can be close and real, yet disappear soon. They don't feel hurt. If the same two people meet again, even years later, they pick up the friendship. This can be quite difficult for us Chinese to understand. Friendships between us develop more slowly but may become lifelong feelings, extending(扩展) deeply into both families.
There is another difficult point for us to understand. Although Americans treat friends warmly in their personal everyday lives, they don't show their politeness to them if they are asked to spend a lot of time staying with friends. But in China, we are usually generous(慷慨) with our time. We, as hosts, will appear at an airport even in the middle of the night to meet a friend. We may take days of from our work to act as guides to our friends. It is opposite in America. Americans can't manage the time to do so much with a visitor outside their daily plans. They will probably expect the visitors to get to the hotels by themselves and expect the visitors to phone them there. Once the visitors arrive at their homes, the welcome will be full, warm and real.
For Americans, it is often considered more friends to invite friends to their homes than to restaurants, except for business matters. Americans are ready to receive us foreigners at their homes, share their holidays, and their home life. So accept their hospitality(款待) at home and enjoy your visit in America!
Febri's is a very friendly place. We did not see one unhappy staff member (工作人员) — all have smiles on their faces. It is very clean and it has good service.
The pool is wonderful and deep and there is a baby area in it. My kids loved the elephants around the pool spraying water. We often bad lunch by the pool. You only just push the bell and the staff will bring you a menu. It serves the usual food with little change each day.
Lots of visitors stay here because it's a very good family hotel. If you have young kids, I advise you to ask a ground floor rooms, because stairs are too hard for young kids. These rooms are at the back of the hotel, so there is no street noise. It's very quiet. I slept with 3 pillows (枕头) under me. The spa is quite relaxing! The location is good. Everything is close by, and the street is not one way here. Next to the hotel door there is a good DVD shop, and you can rent DVD at a good price from it. It's a $1 taxi ride to Kuta Market. If you want to go to the beach, you can walk through the hotel opposite to Febri's to get to Tuban Beach.
A. But the beds are very hard. B. Breakfast is included daily. C. The family rooms are a good size. D. Staff are lovely and very happy working there. E. It is also convenient if you want to go shopping. |
Good news or bad news? It depends on how you see things. You can be angry after being cheated. Or you can choose to move on with your life …
Robert De Vincenzo, the great golfer (高尔夫球手), once won a competition, after receiving the check (支票) and smiling for the cameras, he went to the club and got ready to leave. While he was walking alone to his car in the parking lot, a middle-aged woman came over to him.
She said "congratulations" to him and then told him that her child was seriously ill and near death. She did not know how she could pay the doctor's bills.
De Vincenzo was touched by her story, and he took out a pen and signed his winning check for payment to the woman. "Make some good days for the baby," he said as he gave the check to her.
The next week he was having lunch in a country club when his friend came to his table. "Someone told me you met a middle-aged woman there after you won that golf competition." De Vincenzo nodded. "Well", said the friend, "I have news for you. She cheated you. She has no sick baby. She has not even married."
"You mean there is no baby who is dying?" said De Vincenzo.
"That's the best news I've heard all week," De Vincenzo said happily.
You can complain because roses have thorns (刺) , or you can be happy because thorns happy roses.
