A job is more than just a job, especially to the older people. "It's not the money that matters, but the 1 of self-worth, "56-year-old Cheng Fang said.
Five years ago, Ms Cheng was a(n) 2 at a private clinic. She had worked there for almost 30 years but 3 her job when the doctor moved to another country. It was really 4 for her to find another job as a nurse. "People do not trust my ability when they learn how old I am, "she said. After two years of 5, the mother of two found another nursing job by accident. But then after two years, she quit(退出). 6?
"My workmates were young and they didn't understand me because of my 7. They often asked me, 'You are so old, what are you working for?' It was unfair!" she said 8. Then, one of Ms Cheng's neighbors told her about retraining courses on specific jobs, such as convenience store assistants, junior clerks and so on.
After training, Ms Cheng got a new job as a store assistant. "But I was interested in driving. I didn't think my age was a problem 9 I was fit and healthy," she said. Ms Cheng was 10 between interest and employment(就业). It took her 24 hours to make up her mind and finally she decided to 11 to work as a driver.
Ms Cheng's leader is 12 with her. "Ms Cheng has shown a good responsible attitude to work," Wang Min, who 13 the company, said. What's more, Mr Wang said he hired(雇佣) 14 people because they were able and honest. "Age is not an important factor(因素)but 15 is. Many old people are more able than the young. They will not run from difficulties but young ones will."
The "Freshman Fifteen"
You may not have heard the words "freshman fifteen" before, but they are very important for students who are entering university. A freshman is a first-year college student. "Fifteen" refers to fifteen pounds— the fifteen pounds added to a student's weight in his or her first year. There are a number of reasons why first-year university students gain weight; but it's encouraging to know that freshmen don't have to add these harmful fifteen pounds.
Mistakes choosing food
University kitchens serve many kinds of food. Some students choose unhealthy food, because now their parents are not nearby to help them choose. Some students visit the kitchen many times while studying. Late at night, some students get harmful fast food such as French fries with coke to drink. Students also have less time for walking, running, and doing sports because of their schoolwork.
Eating right
If you're careful, you don't have to add fifteen pounds. Here are some ideas:
*Think more about what you eat.
*Eat plenty of vegetables and healthy meats.
*Don't eat desserts full of sugar, have fruit after dinner.
*Try not to eat so much junk food while you study.
*It's all right to have a little fast food sometimes—but not often.
*Write down the foods you eat.
Remember that the "freshman fifteen" can happen to anyone. Talk to your friends about it. Together, try to eat healthy food and not to eat junk food. Walk, run, do sports—move and you will feel better! And it is always more fun with friends. Help each other and you can have a healthy and happy freshman year.
Then Alice saw a small glass table. There was a little golden key on it. She picked it up and put it into all the locks on the doors but it didn't open any of them. She moved a curtain (窗帘)on one of the walls and discovered another door, a very small one. She put the key into the lock. It was exactly the right size! She opened the door and looked through it. At the end of a low passage(通道)she saw a beautiful garden. It was full of brightly colored flowers.
"Oh, how beautiful!" she said. "I'd love to go there but I'm too big to get through the door."
She walked back to the table. There was a bottle on it now.
"I'm sure that bottle wasn't there before," she said, a little confused(困惑的).
She put down the key and picked up the bottle. She read the words "DRINK ME" on it. Alice wasn't a stupid girl. She didn't drink it at once. First she looked at the bottle carefully. There wasn't a label on it that said "POISON"(毒药).
So she put the bottle to her lips and drank.
"Mmm, it's nice," she said. It tasted like cherry tart, pineapple, and roast turkey, all the things that she liked to eat―so she drank some more. And some more. Soon the bottle was empty.
"What an interesting feeling," she said. "I'm getting smaller and smaller." It was true! She was now as small as her cat Dinah.
"Good! I can go through the door into the garden," she said. But, poor Alice! When she got to the door, she didn't have the key! It was on the table. She couldn't reach it because she was too small now. She sat down and cried.
After a while she said, "Alice! Stop crying! Crying doesn't help! Dry your tears right now!"
When she looked at the table again, she saw a small glass box under it. She picked it up and opened it. There was a small cake inside. It had the words "EAT ME" on it. She put a small piece of it in her mouth.
"If I grow bigger I can reach the key, "she thought." And if I grow smaller I can go under the door."
But nothing happened, so she finished it.

b. She moved a curtain and discovered another door.

We all know the strange feeling of watching the time change on a clock. You never see it change because the hands move so slowly. But, of course, the time is changing all the time.
Human faces, like clock faces, are also changing. And like clocks, the changes take place too slowly to be noticed. Over many thousands of years, though, huge changes are possible. For example, the human brain tripled(增至三倍)in size and began to think more. Our faces became flatter.
If our heads became larger in the past, how will things change in the future? Unlike the changes of a clock face, the changes in human faces are very difficult to predict. One of the main reasons for this is the way in which we can now control parts of nature. Hundreds of thousands of years ago, all changes were natural, but now we can actively choose paths(路径)for our own evolution(进化).
A US artist named Nickolay Lamm has recently offered an idea. It is what human faces may one day look like. The designs, inspired by his conversations with scientist Alan, show humans with larger heads and eyes, especially the forehead may be larger because of increased usage of the brain.
Just a few hundred years ago, most humans were working in the fields, whereas nowadays more and more people receive education. These are just predictions, and no one can be sure how human beings will become in the future. But with such huge changes in our environments, it seems likely that we will look very different in the future.
Monsters of the Deep
Sea monsters are not just imaginary creatures. Millions of years ago, real monsters did actually live on Earth.
Today, scientists use fossils(化石)to help them find out what these monsters were like and make pictures of these animals. So now, we can all see what they look like.
Eyes in the Dark
Temnodontosaurus was an unusual animal for sure. Its name means “cutting tooth lizard,” and with good reason―it had very big teeth. It also had some of the largest eyes in nature. They were over 25 centimeters across! With such big eyes, Temnodontosaurus could easily find its food in the dark water.
The Stalker
Known as a stalker, its name means the " lord of the seas," Thalassomedon was a large sea monster with a very long neck. It also had a special way of catching fish: It carried stones in its stomach! These helped keep the largest part of its body and tail down in the dark water. Meanwhile, its long neck slowly rose up toward the fish. The fish didn't have a chance to get away from Thalassomedon. They didn't see the sea monster until it was too late!
