The Spring Festival comes in January or February every year. It is an important (重要的) Chinese festival. People also call it Chinese New Year. On Chinese New Year's Eve (除夕), families have a big dinner together. They often eat dumplings. People visit their friends and relatives (亲戚). Children often get red packets (红包) with some money (钱) in them. People also watch fireworks at night. They like the beautiful fireworks very much.
John is a Canadian (加拿大人). He lives in a tall building (高楼) in the city of Toronto (多伦多). There are eighteen floors in the building and he lives on the fifteenth floor. He uses a lift to go up and down.
John works very hard. He goes to work early. Every day he gets out of the lift. Then he walks to a bus stop. The bus stop is in front of a station. It is about two hundred metres from his home.
He usually catches the number 11 bus to work, but sometimes he goes by train. John works in a factory about ten kilometres from his home. He starts working at 8:30, and finishes at 4:45. He gets back home at a quarter past five. He gets into the lift, and he goes up to the twelfth floor. Then he gets out of the lift and climbs up to the fifteenth floor on foot.
