On my first day as a teacher, I arrived really early. My hands were shaking. My heart1quickly. I was so2that I hid myself behind the desk. The kids came in and looked for their3. I heard them whispering, "Where is our new teacher, Ms. Wood?"
Thinking it twice, I stood up. Everyone was surprised. I decided to be honest with my students. I took a deep4, and told the kids how nervous I was. But I also told them that I wanted to be their best friend and best teacher, too. One boy said, "That's okay, Ms. Wood. I was scared, too." The students were all standing there, smiling at me. They made me feel so5. My fear slowly disappeared.
Many people think the 1 time is spent, the more work will be done. So students have to spend the whole 2doing school work except the three meals.
Modern students have many 3. They love sports, computers and music. A 4holiday can get them away from too much school work, and they can do 5 they like. But still teachers do not think about it. Because students have too much homework, they have no time to 6 themselves. Students are really tired 7their weekend homework. So they don't do it8 Sunday night. And there is not enough time to finish the homework9. The poor weekend homework usually makes teachers10.
Things always get 11 without right ideas. Too much school work makes students lose interest in learning. It's also bad for their 12 . A horse runs faster after a 13. But for students only rest is not enough. So such a condition (状况) should be 14 to give students both 15 and knowledge.

Mother's Day is coming. It is a time to let Mom know she's special to you. Finding the right for Mom on that day is not always easy. We often want something personal and thoughtful. But how can we make it? These following ideas may help you.
Gift of Time
Moms just want to spend time with their children so make it a Mother-Daughter/Son day. Spend the whole day with her. Do the things she likes doing with her.
Home Video
Take your family videos and make them a short home video. She can enjoy it whenever she misses you. Although it may take a lot of time, the process(过程) can be great fun and the result is often priceless(无价).
Mom Mix
Make a CD for her. It's a collection of all the songs that remind her of you and your growing up.
Write a Letter
Write a letter instead of a simple card. Write about all the good memories you have with her and all the things she has done for you.
Flowers
People send carnations(康乃馨) on Mother's Day. You can easily spend a lot of money on them. If you have flowers in your garden, or can handpick them, it can be a great gift.
Dinner
Make a dinner and invite her over. You can also take it over to her house and surprise her. Just don't' forget to wash the dishes after the dinner.
After I finished college, I couldn't find a job in Los Angeles. At last I had to move to Las Vegas but left my family behind. I missed them all week, and I went home on most weekends to see them. I often rented a car because I would often have lots of problems on the way to Los Angeles or to Las Vegas if I drove my poor car.
One time I decided to save money, and I drove my car. It got to California, but on the way back to Vegas it was broken. I didn't know what I should do. Then a middle-aged man drove up. He put in some coolant and repaired my car. He made it start soon.
I gave him the $12 in my wallet, and he said he would use it for the next car. Then I knew that he was a mechanic who drove up and down the highway each weekend to help the drivers in trouble.
Now fifteen years has passed, but I still think about what a great man he is.
Emily and Zach are confused! Their parents told them they could choose between Massachusetts and Arizona for their vacation this summer, and they think both states seem pretty amazing.
Emily has always wanted to visit Boston, the capital of Massachusetts. Zach and she both agree that walking along the Freedom Trail would be pretty great. Emily and Zach both love the beach. If they went to Massachusetts, they could spend a few days at the beaches on Cape Cod.
Zach finds learning about Native Americans extremely interesting and has always wanted to travel along the Apache Trail in Arizona. Emily is not as keen on traveling along this trail as Zach, but they both would like to visit Phoenix, the capital, and then travel to Meteor Crater. Zach learned in science class that Meteor Crater is a very huge hole. It was created when a huge object from space fell to Earth.
The only thing that Zach doesn't like in Arizona is the heat. It is very hot in this southwestern state. Massachusetts, on the other hand, is in the northeastern United States. Here, Zach and Emily and their parents could enjoy the nice weather.
How will they decide which state they should visit? That would be great if they could take two trips!
A long time ago, there was an old, poor fisherman who could not catch enough fish for him and his family to eat. One day, when he pulled in his fishing net, he found a bottle inside that looked valuable,But he was also curious to see what was inside, so he took the top off the bottle. Smoke came out of the bottle and then out came a big, powerful genie(怪物).
The genie had been in the bottle for 400 years and was very angry. At first, he told the fisherman that he would kill him and the fisherman had to choose how he wanted to be killed. Scared, the fisherman decided to trick the genie. He told him that he did not believe he could fit inside the little bottle because he was so much bigger than it was. The fisherman told the genie that he had tricked him and then said he would only let the genie out again if the genie promised to help him instead of hurting him.
The genie then took the fisherman to a lake where there were many special fish. The fisherman caught four of these fish and the genie told him to take these fish to the king. The fish were special because they could talk! The king was very impressed by this and he paid the fisherman a lot of money for the fish.
The King also gave the fisherman's son a very important job and married one of the fisherman's beautiful daughters.
A. He thought it was useless. B. So the genie went back inside to prove it. C. They could answer any questions that someone might have. D. He thought he could sell the bottle and make some money. E. The genie promised to do so and the fisherman released him. |

Shreya Papneja is 13 years old. She started a charity group called Children's Health Awareness Program in Schools. Her charity group helps kids make healthy choices and tries to stop childhood obesity(肥胖).
A doctor once told Papneja that more than one-third of children were overweight. She did a lot of research about it. Then she made a website to teach other children about exercise and healthy eating.
She does a lot of things for her charity group when she is free. For example, she often organizes different activities at schools around her hometown.
