On a winter morning, I 1shopping and bought a pair of shoes for myself. I put the shoes in the living room after I got home. Then I went to2house to do my homework with her.
However,3I came back home, I couldn't find the 4in the living room. Just then, my mother came in. She looked very 5. And she was wearing the new shoes." Oh! My dear daughter! Thanks for 6me such a great present. You gave me a great 7. This is the best gift I have ever received," my mother said to me 8.
Suddenly, I 9that day was my mother's birthday." Just now I showed your present to some of my friends. They all said you were a great daughter!" I was ashamed (羞愧的)to hear that.
This is 10special present I have given to my mother.
Have you ever lost your bicycle? Is it necessary to tell the police if your bicycle is stolen(偷)? I think it's necessary. Maybe one day you would be as lucky as Alan Bentley.
Last Friday, Alan Bentley was really worried because he received a letter from the local police station. In the letter, he was asked to come to the station. When Alan got there, a policeman told him that his bicycle had been found in a small village two hundred miles away. It is being sent to his house by train now.
Alan was really surprised when he heard that, because he never expected he could find the bicycle. He remembered the bicycle was stolen twenty years ago when he was a 15﹣year﹣old boy. How amazing!
My name is Zhao Kai. I'm a middle school student in Guangxi. In September, 2017, I got a chance to go to America as an exchange student(交换生).
It was a busy Monday. I went to school by bus and there were lots of people. Luckily, I got a seat. After a few stops, an elderly foreigner got on the bus and stood just a few steps away from me.
In China, it's good manners to offer the seat to the elderly. So I stood up and said to the man, "Sir, please sit here." To my surprise, the man smiled, shook his head and said, "No, thank you." I felt very puzzled and wondered why he didn't accept the seat.
When I got school, I was told that if the man took the seat, it meant that he was old. Most Americans of a certain age don't want others to think they are old. I made a mistake that day, but I learned about the cultural differences between China and America.
Interesting Festivals in the World
Throwing tomatoes﹣Spain(西班牙) Spain takes "tomatoes fights" to a whole new level. But the tomatoes are being thrown, not eaten. The festival takes place during the last Wednesday in August. Trucks carry tomatoes into the square. People rush to the tomatoes and throw them into the crowd. |
Rolling cheese﹣England This festival is celebrated on the last Monday in May. It takes place on Coopers Hill. A large wheel of cheese is rolled down Coopers Hill. The festival is actually a race where people run down the hill after the rolling cheese. The first person to cross the finishing line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese. |
Burning man﹣The United States The Burning Man Festival lasts a week. It is from Monday before Labor Day to Labor Day (which falls on the first Monday in September in America). The festival takes place in Black Rock Desert. The best part of the festival is the burning of a large sculpture of a man. |
Pouring water﹣Thailand The Songkran Festival is the celebration of the New Year in Thailand. Rather than a single day, Thailand celebrates the New Year from April 13th to April 15th. Thai people run after each other, pouring water. Songkran is one of the most important reasons why foreigners travel to the beautiful land. |
Rowing(赛艇) is a good sport for people. The sport is not so commonly played in China, but almost half of all American high schools have rowing teams.
During the season, we practiced rowing a lot. Each one of us had an oar (桨)and we each rowed one oar with both hands. Together we pulled the oars, and the oars pushed the water back so the boat would move forward. When you row, you do a lot of work with your thighs(大腿)and back.
Though the practice was very hard, I chose to do it because I like the joy that hard work brings.Even when the coaches were not there, I kept rowing hard with my hands because I wanted to find out how well I could do. In order to move the boat fast, everyone on the team must keep the same speed, so we needed to work together The experience also taught me that if you want to get something, you need to pay something first. As Americans like to say, "No pains, no gains!"
