Rules are everywhere. When you are reading at the library, taking a bus or driving a car on the road, you must follow some rules. But do you know about any rules on a subway? If you take the subway in Hangzhou, you may find these rules.
At the station: Wait in line before getting on the subway. Stand behind the yellow line. Let the passengers (乘客) get off first. Don't rush onto the train. When you hear a "beep" sound, do not get on the train. The door is closing. Wait for another train. On the train: No smoking. No eating & drinking. Give your seat to old people, the disabled or women carrying babies. |
Are you looking for something fun and would you like to help others in your spare time? Then join us to be a volunteer(志愿者)! We have volunteer jobs of all ages. Anyone, from twelve-year-old children to people in their seventies, can become a volunteer.
You can help people in many ways. Schools need help with taking care of children while their parents are working. Hospitals need volunteers to look after children while their parents are seeing a doctor. Animal lovers can help take care of those dogs and cats without homes. There is something for everyone.
"As a volunteer, I don't want to get anything. Seeing the children's happy faces, I'm happy, too," said Carlos Domingo, an old woman of 62.
"I often played computer games in my spare time before. But now I help older people learn how to use computers," said another volunteer at the age of 18.
If everyone helps out a little, we'll have a better world to live in.

My daughter Maria is a girl of nine years old. She is in Grade Four.
Every evening we get into homework battles. Three afternoons a week, she has activities (net-ball, singing) after school and by the time we get home, homework is the last thing she feels like doing. The other two days, she gets home early and we argue (争论) about whether she should do her homework right away after school, or if she should have some time to rest and play first.
When Maria at last sits down to do her homework, she seems to want me there to help all the time. I do want to help her, but I'm sure that she is going to need to be able to do it by herself. And in fact, most of the time, I have to do other things.
It seems that children these days have much more homework than we did, and some of it is really beyond (超越) their abilities (能力). As you can see, I'm really worried about homework and I really don't know what I should do. Any ideas?
It is good to keep animals in zoos. Firstly, zoos are places for people to see many different kinds of animals from all over the world. If there are no zoos, most people would never see a real tiger or a bear. Secondly, zoos look after the animals very well. The animals are always given food and cleaned on time. In the wild, it is not always possible for an animal to find food, so sometimes it goes hungry. Thirdly, zoos protect the animals. They give them a safe place to live in. In the wild, some kinds of animals are in danger now. If there are no zoos, there will be fewer kinds of animals in the world in the future.
However, some people think it is unfair to keep wild animals in cages. Some cages are too small for many animals, such as bears and tigers. They always look unhappy in cages. Wild animals should try to look for their own food in the wild. Anyone will not feel happy if he can't go outside his home. Will animals like it?

We go to many places every day. Do you usually walk ride a bike? In a modern city, there (be) many ways for people to choose. If you are just in a hurry, you can choose to take a taxi. It is much cheaper than taxis and faster than (bus). When you are not busy, you can take a bus, and then you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city on it.
