Mr. White looks out of the window. There is a1at the other side of the street. The boy takes some bread out of his bag and begins eating. There is a very thin (瘦的) dog in the street, too. The boy says to it, "Come here, good dog. I'll give you some2." The dog is3and goes to the boy, but he doesn't give it any bread. He kicks (踢) the dog. The dog4away sadly, but the boy5. Then Mr. White comes out of his house and says to the boy, "I'll give you a dollar (美元)."The boy is very6and says, "Yes." "Come here," Mr. White says. The boy goes to him,7Mr. White doesn't give him a dollar. He hits him8a stick (棍子).
The boy cries and says,"9do you hit me? I don't ask you for any money." "No," Mr. White says, "And the dog does not10you for any bread, but you kick it."
When you travel in a foreign country, it is very important to know the meanings of some gestures (手势). Following the customs (习俗) will help you.
Gestures |
Meanings |
| Americans often touch their temples (太阳穴) to say somebody is clever. But this means one is silly to Chinese. |
| In America, people do this to say "OK", but it means somebody will lose his or her job in Japan. |
| In China, the thumbs (拇指) -up sign means good. But in Australia and South Africa, it is a bad sign. |
| In America, waving one's hand means goodbye. But in Peru, people will not leave when they see this; they will run towards you. |
Japan has many robots now and you can see lots of them in the country. You can find worker robots, robots that clean your home, and even robots you can play with.
My friend Tasuku has got a restaurant in a big city. It is near a supermarket. He gets nine robots for the restaurant. Each robot costs (价值) 34,000 yen. The restaurant is not big, but very popular. Now more and more people come here for dinner.
The robots have different jobs in the restaurant. Three robots cook different kinds of food; one washes the dishes (盘子); one cleans the floor and the others give food to the customers.
Although robots do most of the jobs in the restaurant, Tasuku is still very busy. He must do many things to keep the robots working well. Luckily, Tasuku is good at studying robots and he knows robots very well. I think in the future, there will be a lot of robot-themed restaurants (机器人主题餐厅) around the world.
We can see a lot of shopping festivals. Singles' Day is a big one for Chinese shoppers. It's on November 11th. In the United States, Black Friday is the most well-known one.
Black Friday always falls on the day after the Thanksgiving holiday. On this day, stores give special deals (特价) . Shoppers get up very early and wait in line at stores before they open. They might start to wait in line as early as 2 or 3 a.m. Sometimes there are too many people. They are not able to get inside the store.
Black Friday is not the only shopping festival in the US. Another holiday is Cyber (网络的) Monday. This day is always on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
For me, I don't like any of these holidays. They place too much importance on buying things. I like Buy Nothing Day. The "holiday" is on the same day as Black Friday. It is an international holiday and it is against over consumption (反对消费过度).
What do you think about these holidays?
Sam is going to the cinema with his friends. But he doesn't know how to get there. Here is the letter from his friend Lucy. Read and try to help him draw a map.
Dear Sam, I hear that you don't know the way to the City Cinema. Let me tell you. You can take No.16 bus and get off the bus at the bus station. The bus station is opposite the Centre Park. Go along Renmin Street and cross Chang an Street. You will see Renmin Hospital on your right. And you can see a sports hall opposite the hospital, near the bank. Next to the bank is the City Museum and it's on your left. And on your right is the Parking Area. Go across the Huanghe Street, the City Cinema is just on your right, opposite Fuhe Restaurant. Hope you have a happy weekend! Yours, Lucy |

There are (百) of people there and some of them are (游泳) in the sea. We go back home at about five o'clock. In the evening, I help my mother with the (家务劳动). Then we go to the market near my home and buy some (新鲜的) strawberries and lemons. I go to bed (早) at night. What a busy but great day!
Few of us (real) truly understand that a father's love is like a mountain. But in the US movie I Am Sam, I see this kind love and understanding.
Sam Dawson has 7- year old daughter named Lucy. Because Sam has mental disability (智力障碍), people think he cannot look after Lucy send her away to another family.
But Sam takes on many part-time (job) and moves closer to see Lucy. One night, Lucy goes to Sam's house. She tells him that she doesn't want (go) back, but Sam takes her back to her new family's home anyway. Sam's act (win) Lucy's heart at last.
This movie tells us what parent's love is. Sam knows how to love. He always tries (he) hardest to bring up Lucy right. He will (do) it all the time.
(father) play important roles in our mental development. US writer Fanny Fern once said, "To kids, the name of father is another name for love."
