One day, Robby,7coming to our lessons. He told me that his mum was sick and unable to take him to piano lessons, but he was still practicing. He told me he wanted to8my concert and I agreed.
The night of the concert came. The concert was going well. Then Robby came up on the stage, and began to play the piano. He played9well that everyone was on their feet, clapping (鼓掌) excitedly. In tears, I ran up on the stage, "Oh, Robby!10did you do it?"
"Well, Miss Green, do you remember I told you my mum was sick? Well, actually she had cancer and died this morning. And well, she was born deaf, so tonight was the best time for her to hear me play the piano. I wanted to make it special."

Linda was a sixteen-year-old girl in Canada. She was feeling bad for several days. Her mother took her to a hospital and the doctors found out that she had cancer.
Linda's life changed. She began to go to the hospital often for treatment ( 治疗), and she also became depressed.
The hospitals and the doctors were good, but Linda did not have hope herself. Linda's mother called a flower shop close to the hospital. "I want some beautiful flowers for my daughter. She is a teen girl with cancer." She told the shop owner.
Later, the flowers arrived. Then Linda saw something unusual. It was a card. It read, "Linda, I own this flower shop. I had cancer when I was fifteen years old. I am 24years old now. Good luck. My heart goes out to you.
Yours,
Alice."
Linda smiled. She finally felt some real hope. She found the will (意志) to live.
Little things make a big difference. All of us can give little things like kindness, encouragement and hope to others.
I used to watch him from my kitchen window. He seemed so small as he played through a crowd of tall boys on the playground.
I remember the first day when I saw him playing basketball. He managed to shoot jump shots into the net. Those big boys always tried to stop him but no one could.
One day, I met him and asked him why he practiced so much. He said without any hesitation(迟疑),"I want to go to college. And the only way is to get a scholarship. I am going to play college basketball. I want to be the best. My daddy told me if the dream is big enough, the facts don't count."
I watched him through those junior high school and into senior high school. Every week, he led his school team to victory.
One day in his senior year, I saw him sitting in the grass with head in his arms. Quietly I asked what was wrong. "Oh, nothing," came a soft reply, "I am just too short." The coach told him it was impossible for him to get a scholarship. He was heartbroken.
I asked him if he had talked to his dad about it yet. He told me that his father thought those coaches did not understand the power of a dream. He told him that if he truly wanted a scholarship and that nothing could stop him except one thing - his own idea about it. He told him again, "If the dream is big enough, the facts speak louder."
The next year, as he and his team went to the Northern California Championship game, he was offered a scholarship. Naturally, his dream came true.
Around 200 years ago, a well-known English poet called John Keats said something against science. He said that British scientist Isaac Newton had "take apart the rainbow (彩虹)”. Newton explained how light forms a rainbow. For Keats, this explanation meant rainbows could no longer be beautiful.
This is just one example of many. We often hear people talk of problems with science, or say that it is boring. Some people, like Keats, also say that science takes away the beauty of the world. But is this fair?
First of all, science helps us get things done. We need to study science to produce certain kinds of people. After all, where would we be without engineers and doctors? When you are studying science in school, remember that one day you might be using that knowledge to build a bridge, or save a life. Next time you use your phone to send a message, remember that this is possible thanks to science.
Science not only helps society and gets things done, but also makes us think in a certain way. It asks us to believe things only through evidence(证据). It teaches us 'never to trust our beliefs in mind. It teaches us that sometimes, the truth is stranger than fiction.
When you study science, remember what it means. Science has changed the world, and it can change you too. Humans once looked up at rainbows, and said that they were beautiful. Science explained them, and they were no longer difficult to understand for us.
Discovery never stops, and, through science, we can always find new rainbows beyond our eyes.

What's life? It's like a big bag. The bag is filled with happiness and sadness, failure and success, and hope and despair. Experience in life teaches us (many) lessons and makes us better people. With each passing day, we learn how to deal with problems in our (day)life.
Love plays a main role in our life. Without love, a person could become terrible. In the early stage of (us) life, our parents are the ones from whom we get much love and care. They tell us what's correct and wrong, good and bad. But we seldom care about their (word) until we have our own kids.
Happiness may always (bring)us a peaceful mind. And sadness is most likely caused by the (die) of a loved one, failure or despair. But all of these things (pass) away in the end.
Failure is the mother of success. It shows us that how difficult it may be if we want to succeed. You know no one is born with ability to succeed. So, when you fail to do something, don't feel upset but keep on (work) until you succeed. Remember, success brings us money, proud and self-respect. It's important (keep)a clear mind after we achieve.
Hope is what keeps life going. It comes from (patient) and makes us dream. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dark. So, in order to enjoy a better tomorrow, the only choice is to work hard today.
Have you ever heard the saying "There is no place like home!" This is just another way of saying that home is a very special place. Our bedroom, our family, our pets, and all of the things we love are at home.
Is home a place where you can relax and have fun? Is home a place where you get all of your best thinking done? Being at home means different things to different people. As people grow older, home usually stands for more responsibility(责任) because it needs care inside and out. Who takes care of all of these things in your home? How do you help out?
There are many different kinds of homes. Some people live in apartments, condos, or single-family homes. Homes have different rooms that are used for different purposes. The kitchen, the bedrooms, the living room and the bathroom each have their own use. Suppose your house does not have a roof and you are a bird flying over it, what does your house look like? Think about it.
Some people might say that family and food are two of the best parts of being home. At home, you can tell your parents about your day, play with your pets, and grab a snack from the cupboard of fridge. You can relax in your room and read a book or play a game. You can ask friends over to play. Home is a place to take care of and be grateful for. Even though you are young, you can help to make a nice place to be. After all, home is where the heart is!
