Cottesloe Beach of Perth
With more than a kilometre (0. 6 miles) of pure white sand, Cottesloe Beach is one of Perth's most popular spots for swimming and surfing. Generations of West Australians have spent summer days diving into the ocean. People also like to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean while enjoying a glass of wine, a cold beer or a relaxed dinner. In March the annual Sculpture(雕塑) by the Sea outdoor exhibition turns the beach into an outdoor art gallery.
What to see
The main Cottesloe Beach is the greatest place on the whole beach for walking. Peters Pool at North Cottesloe Beach is a great snorkelling(潜水) spot and it's right in front of the surf club. South Cottesloe is where the surfers will head and is great for watching wind. When the ocean's calm, it's also one of Perth's better snorkelling spots. You may even be lucky enough to spot an endangered sea dragon.
How to get there
Cottesloe Beach is halfway between Perth and Fremantle, about 14 kilometres (8. 7 miles), or less than a 30-minute drive from Perth city centre. Public buses leave frequently from Perth's Elizabeth Quay Bus Station. Trains run from Perth Station to Cottesloe Station every 15 minutes and get you there in less than 20 minutes.
Where to stay
Cottesloe offers plenty of accommodation(住宿) choices, including charming seaside hotels and serviced apartments. You can rest your head at the Cottesloe Beach Hotel, Cottesloe Beach House Stays or Cottesloe Beach Chalets.

When Randy Heiss went hiking behind his Patagonia, Ariz. farm, the last thing he expected to find was a Christmas list from a little girl across the US-Mexico border. "I found this balloon on my morning walk near Patagonia on Sunday. Attached to it was a piece of paper with the Christmas wishes from a little girl," Heiss wrote on his Facebook page.
When he brought the list home to his wife, who speaks fluent Spanish, they determined that the little girl had asked for Enchantimals toys, clothes, art supplies and various other gifts. That's when Heiss set out to make the little girl's Christmas dreams come true. Heiss said he had attempted to send Christmas letters to Santa Claus via balloon when he was a kid but never received a response.
Heiss sent a Facebook message on Wednesday to XENY, a radio station in Nogales, to see if it could help him track down the girl or her family. He later received a response from the station, which had determined the author of the letter was an 8-year-old girl named Dayami, and the station wanted to set up a meeting between the two on Thursday. "It just changed my entire day," Heiss told the Washington Post. "Instead of going back to my office in Bisbee, I went with my wife to Walmart. "
The couple bought almost everything on Dayami's list. They also brought a few gifts for Dayami's little sister, Ximena. They told the children they were " ayudantes de Santa," or Santa's helpers.
Heiss,60, said the experience was very healing for him and his wife. Nine years ago,the couple's only son died. " Being around children at Christmas time has been absent in our lives," Heiss said. We now have friends for life. For a day, that border fence with its concertina wire melted away.
"Can I have a glass of hot water?" This is a very common question for Chinese customers in a restaurant. For many Chinese people, nothing is more common than drinking hot water every day. However, the simple habit is like a mystery to some from other countries.
For many Westerners, the idea of drinking hot water is very strange. However, most Chinese people think the Americans' habit of drinking ice water is equally odd and even unhealthy. Some seniors would even carry a tea kettle when they travel, since their Chinese stomachs refuse to take the cold water from the tap. Drinking hot water is considered to be healthier among Chinese people. Traditional Chinese medicine explains drinking cold water leads to an imbalance in temperature. Chinese doctors are encouraging more people outside China to take on the habit of drinking hot water, especially for women.
But in Western countries, drinking hot water isn't common. Westerners often take drinks with ice, not just on hot days but almost every day.
There is a story online that a British man, who has been in Beijing for over five years, visited a local cafe when going back to England. He was waited on by a friendly waitress and in a British accent said, "Can I have a glass of hot water? Please?" The waitress' eyes widened. She was so confused. "To… to… to drink?" she doubted. Eventually, the man received the steaming liquid but felt cold stares from every corner of the cafe.
Westerners are as curious about why Chinese people drink hot water as Chinese are about why Westerners drink cold water. This cultural difference is not a simple issue(问题), but related to history, culture, and science.
As a matter of fact, many teenagers now rely on bottled water for daily drinking. With the younger generation growing up, will drinking hot water become a less popular life habit? Who knows!
Much information can be clearly sent just through our eyes, so the expression "eyes also talk" is often heard. Can you remember any experience that further proves this statement? On a bus you may quickly glance at a stranger, but not make eye contact. If he senses that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable.
It is the same in daily life. If you are looked at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry toward others' stare at you that way. Eyes do speak, right?
Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex. If a man glances at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to move his eyes, his intentions(意图) are obvious. That is, he wishes to attract her attention, to make her understand that he is admiring her.
However, the normal eye contact for two people in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time; in order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking, to tell him that he is attentive.
If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, you will feel upset. A poor liar usually shows himself by looking too long at the other person, since he believes the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.
In fact, continuous eye contact is common only for lovers, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time, to show love that words cannot express.
Evidently(明显地), eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and specific situation.
When asked "What's the biggest mistake we make in life?" the God replied. " The biggest mistake is that Time is free but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it but you can spend it.
That average person lives 78 years. We spend most of our life sleeping, eating, educating, shopping, caring for children……. That leaves us only with 9 years.
There's good news and there's bad news. That bad news is time flies; the good news is you're the pilot. Imagine you wake up every day with $86400 in your bank account(账户). And at the end of the night, it's all gone whether you spent it or not. And then the next day you get another $86400. What would we do with it? so why do we waste it when it comes to time? Those seconds are so much more powerful than dollars because you can always make more money, but you can never get more time. So it's time for us to think how we use our time.
Life teaches us to make good use of time. And time teaches us the value of the life. And as William Shakespeare said, "Time is very slow for those who want, very fast for those who are frightened, very long for those who are sad, and very short for those who celebrate, but for those who love, time is eternal(永恒 ).
A. you think you have time.
B. you don't think you have time.
C. How will we spend that limited time?
D. Life and time are the best two teachers.
E. Once it's lost, you can never get it back.
F. We would never waste it if it was money.
G. You can't get more time, but you can get more money.
There is a saying "We will always be children when our mother is around. " It is more than two years1I last saw my mother, and what I can never forget is the2of her holding bright red apples in both hands.
This winter, Grandma died and then Mother3 her job. I left New York for hometown to4Grandma's funeral(葬礼). When I met Mother in the hometown, the sight of the mess in her flat and the thought of Grandma made5steaming down my cheeks. Seeing this, Mother said, "Now that things have happened, it's no use crying6, Heaven always leaves us a way out. "
Later, Mother was to look for a new job and I was to return to7. She finally decided to8at the railway station. Before saying good-bye to me, she looked out of the window and said, "I'm going to buy you some 9. You just stay here. Don't move around. " I caught sight of a businessman10for customers to buy his apples in the distance. So it would require11the railway track and doing some climbing up and down. That would be a12job for Mother, who was fat. I wanted to do all that myself, but she13me, so I could do14 but let her go. While I was15t her from behind, her hands held onto the upper part of the platform(站台) tightly. She was struggling over with all her strength. Tears could not help flowing down from my eyes. I quickly 16them away. When I looked out of the17 again, Mother was already on her way18, holding bright red apples in both hands.
Mother's love is like the sunshine. No matter how hard life is and no matter19we go, we can feel her 20.
After eating a diet of bread, hamburgers and spaghetti for three(month), I began to miss Chinese food. Luckily, ininternational city like New York, I have little difficulty(find) a Chinese restaurant. However, the Chinese food, which the locals considertheir favorite, is not exactly the Chinese food I enjoy in Beijing. I can always find such so-called "Chinese food" as honey chicken on the menu,I actually have never even heard of it before.
One day, I went to a Chinese restaurant with my local friends. After the meal, each of us(give) a dumpling-shaped cookie. Once I bit into it, I realized something not quite right. I found a piece of paper with a message that read, "This fortune's no good, try another. " At first I(think) it must be a trick of the restaurant. When I told this to my friends, they burst into(laugh) and asked, "Are you really from China?"
But it doesn't mean there is no place in New York where I can satisfy my stomach. I always head to China Town when I (extreme) miss the food of my homeland. Following the hot and spicy smell, I can always find the most typical(典型的) Chinese foodexcites me in the city.
