If you put a buzzard (秃鹰) in a cage without a roof, the bird will be a prisoner. Even though it can fly, it can't fly through the open roof. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a short run of 3 or 4 meters. Without space to run, he will not even try to fly, but will stay in his small jail for the rest of his life.

The ordinary bat that flies around at night can not take off from the ground. If it is placed on the ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly. If it reaches a higher place, it will be able to throw itself into the air. Then it takes off quickly. But on flat ground, it will never fly.

A bee dropped into a cup will stay there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but keeps trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will look for a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

In many ways, there are lots of people like the buzzard, the bat and the bee. They are struggling with all their problems and frustrations, not realizing that the answer is right there above them.

A . it is too big and heavy to fly up. B . it always starts its flight with a short run. C . it has gotten used to living in the cage. D . it is too lazy to fly further or higher.
    2. (2) Paragraph 2 mainly tells us that the bat _____
A . is a kind of smart bird B . never flies around at night C . can take off quickly from the ground D . can only take off a high place
    3. (3) Which of the following is NOT true about the bee?
A . The bee will stay wherever it is placed. B . The bee will die in the cup if not saved in time. C . The bee tries to escape from the sides. D . The bee doesn't see the way out at the top.
    4. (4) What lesson does the story teach us?
A . Different animals have different living habits. B . Animals will always give up when in trouble. C . We should try new ways to deal with difficulties. D . We should solve problems by ourselves.

Food sometimes gets poisoned with harmful things. A person who eats such food can get an illness called food poisoning. Food poisoning is usually not serious, but some types are deadly. The symptoms of food poisoning usually begin within hours of eating the poisoned food. Fever is one of the most common symptoms.

Certain microorganisms (微生物) cause most types of food poisoning. Bacteria and other microorganisms can poison eggs, meat, vegetables, and many other foods. After entering the body, these tiny living things release poisons that make people sick.

Some chemicals can also cause food poisoning. They are often added to food while it is being grown, processed, or prepared. For example, many farmers spray chemicals on crops to kill weeds and insects. Some people may have a bad reaction to those chemicals when they eat the crops.

Some plants and animals contain natural poisons that are harmful to people. These include certain kinds of seafood, grains, nuts, seeds, beans, and mushrooms.

When people handle food properly, the risk of food poisoning is very small. Microorganisms multiply rapidly in dirty places and in warm temperatures. This means that people should never touch food with dirty hands or put food on unwashed surfaces. Food should be kept in a refrigerator to stop microorganisms from growing. Meat needs to be cooked thoroughly to kill any dangerous microorganisms. People should also wash food covered with chemicals before eating it. Finally, people should not eat wild mushrooms or other foods that grow in the wild. Some of these foods may contain natural materials that are poisonous to humans. In addition, some types of fish can be poisonous.
