A: Of course, Great! From now on, we must make full use of time to get well prepared for the senior high school entrance examination (中考). So we can meet in senior high school.

My parents took me to Japan when I was little. I lived there for five years. 1 I came back, my Japanese was very good. "Can I do something useful with my Japanese?" I asked myself.
Then, one day last spring, I got a good opportunity (机会). Everyone was afraid of SARS, so I stayed at home with2 to do. My3brought me a Japanese book. "Why don't you translate it into Chinese? It will be better than4computer games all day." I promised to do 2,000 words each day, but soon I found 5was hard to keep the promise.
One day in May, the6was beautiful. But I couldn't go out. Those 2,000 words were still 7me. After translating only three pages, I already lost 8 in the book. I looked at it for a long time. But I couldn't make myself turn the pages. I wished I could just go outside and9 football with my friends! I counted the words again and again. I just wanted to give up. I felt as if two people were fighting10 my mind. One said, "Don't give up! Keep working hard, and you'll do well!" But then 11 said, "Go and play! It will be more fun than translating. Do your work tomorrow."
I stood up and was about to12the computer. But then I remember 13 my parents had told me," Whatever you do, don't stop halfway." I took a breath and sat down again. Once I started, it wasn't so 14.
15, when I heard that my book was published (出版), I cried. Not because I was sad, but because I had done something great and known "don't stop halfway".
We spend hours, days and years of our lives in school. Imagine you could design (设计) your dream school, what would it be like? What would you be doing? We wanted to find out what teenagers around the world thought.
Here is what they said:
Richard from the USA: My dream school would have a big swimming pool. It would also have a cinema, a gym and a shopping center. My school has none of these and I think there should be more pleasant things for students to do while they are studying. |
Sonia from Italy: I'd like a room where we can relax and play computer games. I'd also like to have a music room. I think there should be a place for everyone to go and relax after class. |
Wu from Beijing: I think it would be great to have another day off every week besides the weekend. If that day was a Friday or a Monday, we would have a long weekend every week. What fun! I also think school should start later, at about 10 o'clock, and finish earlier. |
Hannah from Australia: In my dream school, I think the teachers should give us more freedom and choice about how we study and what we study. I also think it's not necessary for us to wear school uniforms every day. I really don't like wearing it. |
There are many ways to help improve your health like eating healthy food, taking exercise and getting medical help. But the easiest and cheapest way to improve your health is just to sleep eight hours or more every night. The general sleeping rule is that the younger you are, the longer sleep you need.
The problem with sleep is that more and more people in the world are not sleeping enough. According to the World Health Organization over half the people in the world may be sleep-deprived. Having less sleep not only makes people feel tired but also causes accidents. In the United States alone, sleepy drivers cause at least 100,000 traffic accidents a year. Also sleep problems can cause medical problems such as high blood pressure.
How do we teach these people to learn the value of sleep? Perhaps they may listen to the advice of Dr. James Maas an expert (专家) in sleep. He says, "Sleep is like a credit card (信用卡) . When you sleep less. You are only borrowing time. You always have to pay it back. The more hours you don't sleep, the more hours you should sleep to 'pay back' the hours on your 'sleep credit card.'"
For those who value work more than sleep, they should listen to what a famous person once said. "Don't think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the night. That is a foolish idea which is held by people who have no imagination. You will be able to do more."
Studying is important to students. But it is always difficult to find enough time to study every subject you need. So a good plan helps you to make sure of your success in study.
Then, how to make a study plan? Well, you can begin with listing all the subjects you need to study and make sure what you need to do for each subject. Next, you should decide how much time you should spend on different subjects. Now, it is a good idea to study at the same time every day. In this way, you actually have a plan you can remember easily. While arranging (安排) time for each subject, you also need to make sure that you still have time for family, friends and rest. This is because you won't be able to succeed in your studies unless you balance your personal life and your study.
Once the plan is made, the next thing you need to do is to follow it. One of the biggest challenges in following your study plan is that you will be tempted (诱惑) to avoid it and do something relaxing, or fun instead. Luckily, you can fight this temptation by taking breaks. But be sure not to take extra breaks or too long breaks as it can affect your plan. So at the start of your break, set an alarm clock to remind you when your break is over. Also, you need to use your break wisely. For example, go for a short walk, eat a small snack, or listen to some music.
To avoid forgetting to follow your plan, try to get into the habit of looking at your calendar every day. sometimes our plans are hard to follow because some important people in our lives distract (使分心) us from our goals. In order to avoid this, tell people in your life about your plan. Put up a copy of your study guide at home so you and your family can see it, and email a copy to your friends so they know when you have spare time.
In order to deal with the work and pressure that seem boring, we have to take an active part in beautiful acts of love and kindness. So get to it!
In order to solve the problem, we must face it bravely. This can include people in your life who may be bringing you down, the environment or even a person that makes you upset and worried. It's up to you to handle them.
In order to live a meaningful life, you must love yourself. Take care of your actions and how you live each day. Love yourself fully in order to love others fully.
It's not easy to make a decision about what is worth your time and effort or what is not. If situations are seriously terrible and are not repaired, it's time to let go. Are there broken relationships or friendships but you know they are worth the time? Fix them and find peace. Do what you can to find love in situations.
Give our time, energy, love, and sometimes money, please. It is "The True Meaning of Life". Everything we put into the world comes back to us. At the end of the day, no matter what you have, you are likely in a position to give something small to someone else who needs it.
Things that make us smile, laugh and feel good are just amazing. This one is pretty simple…Just do MORE of it. I truly believe that in the super fast paced world we live in, happiness may not come as easily as we wish.
A. Do more of what makes you happy. B. Take care of yourself and your needs. C. Mend what's broken or give it up. D. Don't avoid trouble. E. Give back. |
A teenage boy couldn'tstand his parents' family rules, so he left home. He wanted to be famous, buthe has a poor education. He couldn't find a job and had to beg for food on thestreet.
Years later, his motherdied. Though his father was old, he was still looking for his son. He looked inevery corner of the city. Whenever he went, he put up a big photo of himself onthe wall. On the lower part of the photo, he wrote, "I still love you, mydearest son. Please come back home!"
One day, the son saw one ofthe photos on the wall. The face on the photo was familiar to him. "Isthat my father?" He moved closer and read the words, "I still loveyou…" Tears ran down his face. He made up his mind to go back and see hisdad.
It was early morning whenhe got home. He knocked on the door. Nobody answered, although the door didopen. He rushed into his father's bedroom. His father was sleeping. The boywoke his father up. "It's me! Your son is back home!" The father andthe son held each other with tears in their eyes. The son asked, "Why isthe door unlocked? A thief could get in."
