One day a son went to his father for advice. "Dad, I can't do this anymore," he said. "My lessons are 1 and tiring, and I haven't made any progress. I don't think I'll ever play football 2 and my dream will never come true."
The father 3 his son with loving eyes and said. "Well, son, every person has a 4—a goal of his life. It makes us do what we are doing, 5 it's what we believe in. We have to fight 6 it."
Everyone has 7 when life seems too hard, moments when we feel like giving up is the only choice. We think that no matter how hard we try, we'll never 8 our goals. It's OK to feel down for a little while, but never never never stop 9. When our dreams die, we die.
So you need to remember one thing: Life is like riding a 10. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. Life goes on!
I went to England last year. I enjoyed my stay, and I noticed something interesting with the English way of life.
For example, you must say Mr or Mrs when you meet someone for the first time. When you get to know each other better or when they ask you to, you can just use their first names.
One day, we visited some friends and had afternoon tea together. Afternoon tea is not just a drink but a light meal at around 4 pm. We ate sandwiches and a large fruit cake. In England, you usually drink tea with milk. So I tried to drink tea with milk too.
Fish and chips is traditional food in England. You can buy it and eat it in special fish and to chip shops on the high street, or you can take it away and eat it with your fingers! It is delicious!
At the bus stop, you must not push your way onto the bus. You need to stand in a line and wait your turn. Sometimes people are slow to get on the bus. Once I noticed a gentleman touch a young man on the shoulder, smile politely and say. "Excuse me! Are you waiting for this bus?" He was really polite.
One of the best things about being in Singapore is the food. There are places to eat here to suit everyone's taste.
Coffee shops
Singaporeans go to coffee shops not just to eat and drink, but also to chat or even play games. Although the old coffee shops are slowly disappearing, they are still a good place to go if you want to get cheap and good food.
Hawker centres (小贩美食中心)
Hawker centers are probably the most special eating places in Singapore. Each centre has many food and drink stalls (摊位)under one roof. Compared with coffee shops, they are cheaper. After ordering you will get your food within 10 to 15 minutes.
Food courts (美食广场)
Food courts are usually found in shopping malls and are air-conditioned, so they are more expensive. Some food courts even offer Italian, Korean, Japanese and Greek food all in the same place. Unlike in hawker centres, you have to carry your own food to your table.
Fast food
Fast food is popular with children and teenagers. It arrived in Singapore in the late 1970s and can be found everywhere today. There's Mcdonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King and much more.
Penguins (企鹅) are kind of lovely animal. Many people like the black and white bird very much. But perhaps no one's love for it is stronger than an old man's. Years ago, an old man called Joao Pereira de Souza saved a penguin and let it go back to the sea at last. Then the penguin swims over 8,000 kilometres every year to come back to meet its human friend.
Joao lives on an island off the coast of Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. One day, he found a dying penguin covered in oil on the beach. He took it home, named it Dindim and fed it fish every day. When Dindim was healthy enough to return to the wild, the old man took it to the sea. To his surprise, Dindim returned to the island just a few months later. For the past eight years, it has been coming back to visit Joao.
Now Dindim spends eight months of a year living with Joao. "It usually arrives in June and leaves in February." Joao said happily. "I love the penguin like it's my own child and I believe the penguin loves me." Dindim doesn't let other people touch it except Joao. When it sees Joao, it wags its tail like dog.
Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes! The program works because everyone's eyes are different. So in the future you won't have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank. You'll just have to look at the machine and it will be able to tell who you are. The eye-recognition (眼睛识别) program has been tested in shops and banks in the USA , Britain and Italy.
Scientists are working on other systems, such as knowing you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell! And machines can already tell who you are from your voice or your fingerprint (指纹). But eye-recognition will replace other ways of finding out who you are, it is better because your eyes don't change as you get older or get dirty like hands or fingers. And even twins have different eyes, so the program can be up to 94% correct depending on how good the technology is. In Britain, it was found that 91% of people said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition.
When I was thirteen years old, a girl gave me an important gift.
It was the early autumn of my (one) year at a new school. No one knew me. I was very lonely, and afraid to make friends with (everyone). Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing, I (feel) even more lonely. I could not talk to anyone about my (problem).
One day, my classmates are talking with their friends, but I sat (介词)silence. At that moment, (冠词)girl entered the classroom. I did not know who she was. She passed me and then turned back. She looked at me (连词), without a word, smiled.
(Sudden), I felt the touch of something bright and friendly. It made me feel happy, lively and warm. It was like a (hide) treasure. That smile changed my life.
Now I believe that the world (be) what you think it is. If you think you are lonely, you might always be alone. My suggestion is: Smile at the world and it will smile back.
Every year since 1996, on the last Monday of the last week inMarch, the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and MiddleSchool Students (全国中小学生安全日) is held. This year itfalls on March 30. It offers us a chance to learn more rules about schoolsafety.
A survey (调查) shows that the worstaccidents were a result of stampedes (踩踏), fires and traffic.Experts suggest that right safety ways could avoid 80% of these accidents.

If you take a school bus on your way home or to school, rememberto fasten (系牢) your seat belt and don'twalk around whenit ismoving. If you walk to school or go by bike, follow traffic rules. Wait for thegreen traffic light, and look left and right for cars before you cross theroad.
According to a study, the worst accidents were caused bystampedes, fires and traffic.
