It's never comfortable to take a bus during rush hour on a hot summer day. All my friends hate it. And I…, well, I6 it, too.
Two months ago, I was on a bus that was packed with almost everyone in the city. I7my friend Neal to see a show. And then he called and said he couldn't come. While I was feeling sorry for myself, a girl called my name. I didn't recognize(认出) her8. Then I was surprised to find that she was Helen, my old neighbor. We were happy to see each other, so we decided to have dinner together. And that was the9of many dinners after. You know what? Helen loves eating meat a lot!
With Helen, the bus ride10 something I love. The bus is still packed with people, but I enjoy the ride every day.
Before I finish my report, I'm playing you a song called Currywurst. The singer sings about his love for the meat dish of the same name. Enjoy!
Want to say "hello" from Disneyland? Send a post card!
Beautiful scenes(戏剧)ofparadise (乐园), wild animals, silly pictures — you can find them all in one place. Where? On a post card! Have people always sent post cards? No. Before post cards, people liked sealed letters.
The idea for the firstdecorated (装饰) post card came to John P. Charlton in 1861. He thought a simple card with decorations would be a great way to send a note. Then in the late 1800s, post cards with pictures appeared. By law, people had to write their note on the front —on the picture! The back was only for the address. Several years later, England allowed a divided-back post card. Then people could write their note on the back left side and put the address on the right. During the early 1900s, the golden age of post cards, picture post cards became a craze of the world. In 1908, Americans alone mailed over 677 million post cards. Today, post cards are the third most popular collection in the world after stamps and coins.
Should Children Be Allowed to Get Bored?
Children need time to stand and stare. They should be allowed to get bored so that they can develop their ability to be creative.
Children are expected by their parents to be reading a textbook all the time. However, research shows that it may hamper the development of their imagination, while boredom can give them opportunities to develop creativity.
Boredom is often linked with loneliness, but a writer named Meera Syal said boredom had helped her in developing her mind. She told researchers about her childhood. Having few things to do, Syal often talked with her neighbors. She also tried to do things like learning to bake cakes."But importantly, I thought and wrote a lot, because I was bored, "Syal said. She kept a diary, filling her time with short stories and poems she made up.
Grayson Perry, an artist, grew up in a family with little money. He enjoyed himself by making up stories, drawing pictures for his stories and reading many books in the library. Bored but free, he spent hours looking out of the window, watching the changing clouds and seasons. Perry filled up his free time with what he liked. He became creative, because he could think freely.
Dr Belton is an expert on the effects of emotions on learning."Boredom could be an uncomfortable feeling," she said. "But some young people cannot deal with that boredom creatively. So sometimes they may break a classroom window, or drive a car out for a mad race." Usually, when children have nothing to do, they would turn on the TV, the computer, or the phone. Their time on these things has increased, yet they need to have time to think about their experiences through play or just watching the world around them.
It is this kind of thinking that can inspire the imagination. On the other hand the TV or phone may cut short the thinking process. That can be harmful to the development of creativity. "For developing the ability to be creative," Dr. Belton advised, "Perhaps we need to stand and stare, and stay off-line from time to time.”

People often think of the North Pole (北极) and the South Pole as similar frozen wastelands. They areplaces with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North and South Poles are not much alike as people may imagine.
The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperaturesgo above 32°F, at which water turns into ice. Most of the time, it stayszero. In winter temperatures are usually as low as -30°F.
conditions were very poor, people tried for many centuries to reach the North Pole. About 100 years ago, two men, Robert Peary and Mathew Henson, were able to get to this environment full of troubles and. They reached the North Pole on March 8th, 1909. It was really atrip for them.
There are few things more dangerouscrossing the Arctic (北极圈) on foot. People who stayed there maymany problems: very cold temperatures, sudden storms, and even hunger. Few people can live in such a difficult place.
Peoplethink that with such low temperatures for most of the year, the ice would be thick and hard. However, this is not true in the Arctic. The movement of the ocean water under the ice may often cause many different changes on the surface. Sometimes the ice breaks into two opening lanes of water (水道)"leads". Anyone who falls into a lead can be frozen to death in a few minutes.
National Doctors' Day is a holiday in the United States. It is a holiday that honors doctors for the work they do for their, the communities they work in and for society as a whole. It is their hard work that keeps all of us healthy and this day thanks them for doing that for usour loved ones. The holiday started in 1933 in Winder, Georgia, and since then it's been honored every year on March 30, which was the first anniversary of a doctor using ether anesthesia (乙醚麻醉) by Dr. Crawford W. Long.
We give greeting cards to doctors, both alive and. The red carnation is also still popularly used to say "thank you" to doctors for their work in medicine.
Now when you need to see a doctor, surely you will want to see a good one. But there is one important thing you may never have thought about: Has your doctor rested enough?
Doctors in our country often have to work 34 hours or even (long) without sleep. Most of them work 104 hours a week, and some even 150. (There are only 168 hours a!) One report said that a doctor who works such long hours cannot think more (clear) than a drunk driver! Another found that doctors who sleep 5.8 fewer hours than the week before might make 22% more serious mistakes. Surely no one wants to get in a car that (drive) by a drunk driver. So, (多么) safe would you feel when you are under the care of a tired doctor?
Sadly this problem has been around for a long time. Thereno laws about it yet and hospital bosses don't look like they care, either. And that is why we doctors are asking you (join) us this Sunday, to discuss how to deal with this problem!

Love Notes
From the time when each of my children started school, I packed their lunches. And in each lunch that I packed for them, I put a note, often written on a napkin. The note might be a thank-you for a special moment, a reminder of something we were happily looking forward to, or a bit of encouragement for a coming test or sporting event. In early grade school they loved their notes — they wrote something on them after school as a reply, and they even put notes in my lunches! But as the kids grew older they became self-conscious, and my older son, Marc, after being laughed at by his classmate for the notes, told me that he no longer needed my daily missives but I continued the tradition until the day when he graduated.
Marc is now a successful doctor in Washington DC. Last November, Marc called me and asked me if he could stay with us for two months. It was six years since he began to work. This year his younger sister was leaving for college, his younger brother, Sam, will be a senior in high school. Sam, too, told me that he is too old for notes. But like his elder brother and sister, he will receive those notes till the day he graduates.
I was especially excited and pleased to have Marc coming back home.
During those two months, I was still making lunch every day for his younger brother. Of course, I packed one for Marc, too, then he could have his lunch on the way back to his home. Imagine my surprise when I got a phone call from my 30-year-old son, Marc, complaining his lunch from his home. "Did I do something wrong? Aren't I still your kid? Don't you love me anymore, Mom?" were just a few of the questions he threw at me as I laughingly asked him what was wrong.
"My note, Mom," he answered. "Where's my note?"
