Joe wanted a computer. He asked his1for the money but they said he must get it himself. He thought about this when he walked home. Not many people wanted to ask children to work for them. Maybe he could2snow for the neighbours. But it was not in3. He had to wait a long time for that.
Then he saw one of his classmates, Dick, delivering (送) newspapers. "I could do that," he thought. "Maybe I could even get the4in this way. I could pay for it a little each week. "He ran to5up with Dick. Joe asked him a lot of questions. He learnt that it was6to get twenty—five dollars each week. He learnt that the job7about three hours each night. Washington was the first president of the US. He was very clever when he was still a 12-year-old boy.
Once a thief stole some money from Uncle Post, Washington's neighbour The door of the house was not broken, and things in the room were in good order. Washington concluded that the theft must have been committed by one of villagers.
That evening at the villagers' meeting he said, "We don't know who stole the money but God does. God sends his wasp (黄蜂) to tell good from evil. Every night the wasp flies among us but few people notice it…" Then, all of
a sudden Washington waved his hand and cried out, "Look! The wasp has landed on the thief's hat. It is going to sting (叮) him!"
The crowds burst into an uproar. Everybody turned to look for the thief. But soon the noise died down. All eyes were fixed on Pee, who was trying hard to drive the "wasp" off his hat.
"Now we know who stole the money," Washington said with a smile.
Much meaning can be carried clearly with our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.
Do you have such kind of experience? On a bus you may look at a stranger, but not too long. And if he finds that he is being looked at, he may feel uncomfortable. It is the same in daily life. If you are looked at for more than
necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is something wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry toward the person who is looking at you that way. Eyes do speak, right?
Looking too long at someone may seem to be impolite. But sometimes things are different. If a man looks at a woman for more than 10 seconds, it may mean that he wishes to attract (吸引) her attention and to make her understand that he loves her. When two people are in a conversation, the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time, in order to make sure that the listener does attention to what he or she is speaking. Lovers will enjoy looking at each other or being looked at for a long time to show something that minds cannot express.
Clearly, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and the place where you stay.

Imagine you are in Africa. Suddenly, a group of spots run past you fast. What is it? It may be a cheetah (猎豹), the fastest animal on land. It can run up to 70 miles an hour. It is faster than most cars travelling on the highway. Although the cheetah can run fast, it uses its energy quickly and becomes tired. If a cheetah can't hunt (猎取) its dinner in a hurry, it will have to rest for a while before trying again.
A cheetah is also a great hunter because its good eyesight helps it find its prey (被捕食的动物) easily. A cheetah's coat is also very useful. The coat is tan (棕褐色的) with black spots. This coat helps a cheetah to blend in (融入) with the tall, brown grass in Africa. Other animals don't see it hide, so a cheetah can easily catch rabbits, birds, and other animals.
Today cheetahs are facing great danger. Parts of Africa are turned into farms, This change makes cheetahs and other animals have to find new places to live in, but that is not very easy. Other animals such as lions and hyenas also hunt cheetahs. However, zookeepers and wildlife experts are trying to save cheetahs. Maybe with their help, the number of cheetahs will grow larger.
