Jealousy (嫉妒) .
What an ugly word. It must be used for an enemy, not a 1. That's what I thought until one night when Kim and I went to a party together.
Kim was always the 2 of attention. This evening was no different, and everyone seemed to be around her. I 3 her too, until I tried to share a story with the others. I felt they quickly turned their attention 4 to Kim. That's when the feeling began.
It was a 5 feeling in my stomach, somewhere between sadness and anger. It seemed the more 6 people gave Kim, the worse the feeling got. I thought to myself this 7 be jealousy. Kim's my best friend! But J couldn't stop the feeling. It has 8 me. Sometimes, I would get 9 with Kim for no reason. Kim noticed it too and asked me 10 was wrong. I was too embarrassed to say anything. So I said 11.
Then one evening, when I was reading my Bible, I saw these words: "Anger is cruel, 12who can stand before jealousy? " It seemed jealousy was the strongest emotion (情绪), and very hard to 13.
I begged (祈求) God to help me. I also asked myself some hard questions: Where did this jealousy come from? Was it that I was afraid of 14 a friendship? Afraid that I wasn't cool, or interesting, or that Kim was 15 than me?
I found the answer finally: My jealousy was all about 16.I had to beat it.
I asked God for his knowledge and power as I worked through my 17 God answered me, it was hard. But in time, I found myself 18 more when Kim spoke. I found myself listening to her, instead of 19 that she was catching everyone's attention.
I was glad for these 20. After all, jealousy was the furthest thing from love, and I wanted to love my best friend.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
By Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with ▲ .
5 My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
10 To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
15 And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Everyone makes mistakes. That's what this understanding English museum's worker wants one child to know after a careless mistake during his visit.
When a young boy was visiting a museum named Chrischurch Mansion with his family, he accidentally knocked a historic jug off the window edge (边缘).The jug broke into 65 pieces. The boy, who was about 4 or 5 years old at the time, was rather sad about the accident.
The jug is about 226 years old. It is worth up to 2,000 pounds. The jug has three spouts (壶嘴) and the user must guess which spout the water will pour from.
Carrie Willis is the duty officer of the museum. Under the direction of the museum's conservation officer Bob Entwistle, she put back together the 18th-century Delft puzzle jug.
"We want the young boy to know that all is well," a spokesman of the museum said. "We would like to invite him and his family back to have a special tour and see the magically repaired jug."
What do people think of this accident? The museum workers dealt with the situation well in reaching out to the boy. The world needs more acts of kindness like this. —Sara (Bunbury, Australia ) Parents do not teach their children how to behave these days. If the parents' job to look after their children. The parents were lazy and careless. —Elizabeth (Cape Town, South Africa) The fault here lies with the museum. They should keep the jug in a safer place. They were being careless with the jug. —Neil (London, UK) |
Picture a young Chinese woman in a field, dressed in traditional hemp clothing (麻衣), as she picks flowers to make wine, makes a bamboo sofa, cooks up all kinds of dishes.
It may sound hard to believe, but such a person lives in modem China, and her name is Li Ziqi. On Dec 14, 2019, she got Person of the Year in the category of cultural influence (年度文化传播人物).
With millions of fans on Sina Weibo and YouTube, Li has made a name for herself in many videos that show an ancient Chinese way of country life in Sichuan province. "I want to do my part to let more people know about Chinese culture, the vlogger told China.org.cn. "It is the fantastic Chinese culture that makes my videos so popular."
Li seems to be a master of all kinds of skills—cooking, painting, designing and farming. Many videos show her picking seasonal ingredients from her own garden and cooking them up with her wood-fired wok (木锅) .A warm bowl of soup for the winter, a lighter plate of noodles for the summer, Li follows the seasons in her cooking.
"She told the stories of China's culture and that of China," the official Sina Weibo account of China Central Television said. The success of Li Ziqi also comes from her "love for life, for her home and for her culture."
In fact, Li's simple pleasures amaze people living in the big cities. "She leads a life that many people dream of" iFeng.com wrote.
Her handmade lifestyle is a dream for many. "In today's society, many feel stressed, "she told the South China Morning Post." When they watch my videos at the end of a busy day, I want them to relax and experience something nice, to take away some of their anxiety and stress."
This is the story of how cholera (霍乱) changed my village.
Tiny germs (病菌) of cholera, small but dangerous, spread through the river. Without realizing, women carried cholera home in the water. Flies carried cholera on their feet. Unwashed hands spread it, too. We have cholera germs in our water, on our food and on our fingers.
It happened so fast. By morning my father was very sick. I was so scared. I went for help. Once the nurse looked at my father, she knew it was cholera. We had to work fast to save him. We made a special drink to help him. First, we made the water safe. We filtered (过滤) it through cloth and boiled it for one minute. Then we mixed half a teaspoon of salt and six teaspoons of sugar in one liter of this safe water. It tasted like tears not too salty. But he soon felt a little stronger. The nurse explained to me that not everyone who has cholera germs gets sick like my father, but they can still spread the disease.
Now I needed to take safe water to my village and teach them how to protect themselves from cholera. I saw a girl carrying water. I told her she could make the water safe by adding chlorine (氯) and waiting half an hour. There was a man about to eat with unclean hands. I told him to always wash his hands with soap and safe water after going to the toilet. I found the mother preparing unsafe food. I told her first we must wash our hands with safe water. Then we had to wash and peel the food. Cook it and always eat it hot and protect it from flies.
I spread the word all over my village and ran to find my father. I was so happy to see he was better. We made our village safe from cholera. Spread the word. Your village can be safe, too.
The Tokyo Olympic Games will start on July 23, 2021 because of the ongoing COVID-19.The Olympics will still be called Tokyo 2020.
Japan, the host country of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has promised to hold "the most innovative (创新的) Games ever organized." On July 24, 2019, the Olympic Committee (奥委会) expressed its first bright idea — medals (奖牌) were made from old phones and other electronics.
The idea was first introduced in 2016 by a group of young Japanese students. They wanted to raise awareness (意识) of the serious electronic waste produced by the country's tech-loving people who change their electronics very often. Japanese people threw away 650,000 tons of electronics every year, only about 100,000 tons of which are recycled.
To help the environment and raise the awareness, the Olympic Committee started the "Everyone's Medal" program in February 2017. The program encouraged people to drop off used electronics at specific location bins set up by Japan5 s Environmental Sanitation Center. It seems to be hard to gather the 8 tons of materials needed to make the 5,000 Olympic and Paralympic medals. However, they had nothing to worry about. By the time the collection ended in March 2019, around 79,000 tons of used cellphones and other small electronics had been collected. In total, the program got 32 kilos of gold, 3,500 kilos of silver, and 2,200 kilos of bronze - more than enough to make every medal.
The Olympic Committee hopes the Tokyo 2020 medals will help raise awareness of the alarming increase in electronic waste - not just in Japan but worldwide - and cause people to rethink whether they need to change their electronics unnecessarily. As Kohei Uchimura, who got three Olympic gold medals, said: "Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic medals will be made out of people's thoughts for avoiding waste. I think there is an important message in this for the future."
Though Japan is the first Olympic host country to make all the medals using metals from used electronics, it is not the first to think of the idea. Brazil made about 30% of the silver and bronze medals for the 2016 Summer Olympics from recycled materials.

A. Exercise gives you a feeling of confidence. B. Exercise helps you to meet more people. C. Exercise makes you feel strong, fit and healthy. D. Exercise can completely make you happier. E. Exercise helps forget the problems and stress. |
We all know that exercise is great for you. But let's be honest, sometimes finding that motivation (动机) to work out can be a little difficult. So, in this post, I am going to share my top five reasons for working out.
When you work out, your body produces endorphins (安多酚) ,which will give you a rush of happiness. You will feel better after a workout than you did before it.
Whenever I move to a new city to study or work, I look for exercise classes to do. You meet like-minded (志趣相投的) people, and you can support each other during a difficult workout.
Exercise might give you a feeling of confidence from being comfortable with your body and appearance. This new confidence might even help in your social or work life.
Focusing on lifting weights or going for a run can help you forget the problems and stress of daily life, studies or work.
Every day, the weights feel lighter and you feel a great sense of achievement. Time goes by, and you'll feel strong and healthy.
So, next time you're feeling down, put your trainers on and get sweating. It might not be easy but I promise you will feel so much better once you have finished!
