Dear Dr Jackson, My parents are never pleased with me. They are always criticizing (批评) my clothes, my hair and the music I listen to. They hate my friends' looks and they keep complaining when I go with them. I'm not allowed to stay out as late as my friends do, so I can't have any fun. My parents only seem to care about my school marks. Although I love them, sometimes I feel we live in different worlds. If they love me, why don't they understand me? Angel |
Dear Angel, Your problem is common to both teenagers and parents. Don't worry, because all this is natural. You see, your parents have grown up at a different time and they have different experiences. So, they think some things are strange, but you find the same things ordinary. For example, the music you like may sound like noise to them. Your parents love you, so they feel they must protect you from whatever they find strange. On the other hand, you don't want to be different teenagers, so you feel that your parents restrict you. I think you should talk about this problem with your parents. Try to explain to them what you want and make them know they can believe you. Sooner or later, they'll find you are a responsible (有责任心的) person and they will give you more freedom. Dr. Jackson |
Although half a century has passed, Shao Guohua never forgot the film ticket his teacher gave him that warmed his heart when he was a boy. Shao entered a primary school in Zigong, SichuanProvince, in 1960. Back then, sports and watching movies were the students' favorite times.
Once, the school organized a trip to the movies for the students, and many of Shao's classmates signed up(报名)for it. But the boy had no money to buy 0. 05-yuan ticket. When his classmates lined up to enter the movie theater, the boy stood alone outside. Then Shao's Chinese teacher Mo Xunru saw him and bought a ticket for him.He can't remember what movie it was, but Shao never stopped being thankful to his teacher.
"Ms. Mo made twenty or thirty yuan a month back then, so a 0.05-yuan ticket may not be a big deal for her. But for me, it moved me deeply," said 63-year-old Shao.
After graduating( 毕 业 ) from primary school, Shao moved to another city along with his parents. In the following years, he tried to find his former(以前的)teachers and classmates, but failed. It wasn't until this year that Shao Guohua visited his teacher, Mo Xunru after 50 years." The reunion ( 重 聚 ) was emotional, " said Shao, who is over sixty himself now. " The 89-year-old Mo did not hear well anymore and seemed to not know me at first sight, but she was still as kind as she used to be." Shao left 1, 000 yuan to his teacher as well as a letter which reads:
"Dear Ms. Mo, wish you good health. Your student: Shao Guohua."
Kobe Bryant and LeBron James became NBA players when they graduated from high school. Their stories have encouraged many student basketball players in China to dream big. Kobe was born on August 23, 1978. He is an American professional basketball player. He plays shooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. His nickname is "Black Mamba" or "Little Flying Man". LeBron James( born on December 30, 1984)is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association. He is commonly nicknamed "King James" or "The Chosen One".
However, almost all professional players in China come from state-run (公立的) sports schools. This makes most talented student players in ordinary schools(普通学校) give up their dreams in sports, and concentrate on their studies instead .
The Nike High School League(耐克高中篮球联赛) gives Chinese school players a chance to play their games like never before. The Nike High School League encourages student players to keep making their basketball dreams come true.People hope they will work hard towards their goals and become professional plays in the future.
When was the last time you gave or received a hug(拥抱)? Do your parents hug you before you go to school? In Western countries, it is quite common to greet close friends or relatives with a hug.
You might hug your teammates after winning a basketball game. Friends who haven't seen each other for a long time will usually hug each other when meeting.
After coming to China, I've noticed that the Chinese seem unwilling(不愿意)to hug.
My Chinese friends tell me that hugging is considered to be very intimate (亲密的) in their culture. Chinese people don't usually hug in public. But people's attitudes towards hugging can also change.
I remember watching a video story about a "hugging party" that was held in shanghai.. The Chinese who took part in the party looked uncomfortable. However, after the party, several of them changed their minds. They found that hugging didn't have to be embarrassing and could actually be quite nice.So next time you see your parents, give them a hug and see how it makes you feel.
A. Of course, people in different countries have different opinions when it comes to hugging. B. If one of your friends is having a bad day, you can hug him or her to cheer him or her up. C. A local artist held the party, invited strangers and asked them to hug each other. D. It usually only happens between people who are really close to each other like couples. |

There are many wetlands (湿地) in China ‒ and some of them have become the world's important wetlands. The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are to many different kinds of animals. The world's Milu deer nature reserve (自然保护区) is on these wetlands. More than 700 Milu deer live there. There are not many red-crowned cranes (丹顶鹤) in the world, but every winter, you can see some in the red-crowned crane nature reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands.
The in the wetlands is neither too high nor too low. There is rain and sunshine, too. They are a good place for wildlife. But offering food and shelter for special kinds of animals is not the reason we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important they also prevent floods. But some people want to the wetlands to make more space for farms and less space for wildlife.
More people are beginning to realize the of wetlands and wildlife. Every year, on Feb 2, many activities are held to teach people about the wetlands.
Hi, I'm Gina. In February, 2018 my mother had a yard sale. During the sale, she had a conversation with a young girl called Nancy, for they had a common interest in some books she had for sale. They enjoyed their conversation so much that they exchanged their phone numbers. Later they became friends and got together a few times. When my mom moved into her new house, she had a family dinner and invited Nancy and introduced her to my brother. Five months later Nancy married (结婚) my brother.
In 2018, there was another special "yard sale" that I'll never forget. One day, after work from school, I found one of my neighbors had a lot of things out in their front yard with cars and people everywhere. I ran to the yard at once and wanted to find some good cheap things too before everything good was gone. But then I found out it wasn't a yard sale. In fact, policemen were taking the stolen (被偷的) things out of the house. My neighbor was a thief! Luckily, I didn't ask how much the TV was.
We should recycling rubbish because it can help us protect environment.
As far as I know, Tom for two weeks.
The police report shows that the accident the weather.
