My cousin Eric was three years older than me. He was big and strong and he always wanted to bully (欺负)1.
Near my town, there was a beautiful2, where kids nearby often swam in summer. Over it was a bridge. When we were in the river, Eric always tried to3me and hold me under. I would dive (潜水) down before he could reach me. When I came up to the surface miles away, he was still there, 4 me.
Other kids would shout," Hey, he's a fish!" Eric said," No, he's a shrimp (虾) !”I replied," Better than a5whale!"
One day, we were about to leave after swimming6a car unexpectedly rushed out of the bridge and fell onto the water. Eyes widely open, all of us were too surprised to say a word. Then someone cried," Oh, no! The drive."
Eric shouted to the other kids," Go and get 7." Then he turned to me, "Jack, you're the underwater swimmer! Let's try to pull the 8 out." With these words, he jumped into the water. I couldn't9 that it was Eric, a bully in my eyes. I took a breath and followed him.
The car lay on one side. We tried to open the door, but 10. Eric lifted a rock and broke the windscreen.11 the broken windscreen, I got into the car and opened the door.
Eric caught hold of the driver and tried his best to pull (拉) him out 12 and swam towards the surface.
I tried to follow, 13 the water was turning black in front of me. I was falling. I thought I was going to14, just at that moment, a strong arm reached down and held me. Back to the river bank, Eric looked at me," You OK?" I said yes to him." Not bad for a shrimp." he joked.
I was to answer back, but from my mouth came" Not bad for a15 whale.
It was then that I realized Eric was not" a fat whale" at all.

Mona Island is an amazing place to take a vacation. Some of the animals living there can't be found anywhere else in the world. There are fascinating beaches and caves (山洞) to explore(探险). The sea around the island has colorful fishes.
Mona Island is very small. The government of Puerto Rico(波多黎各) takes care of the island and has made it a natural reserve. That means the island's animals and plants are protected from danger by people. Mona Island is different from most places because people are not allowed to live there. Only a few park workers are able to stay.
The park workers' job is to keep Mona Island safe and wonderful. Rules must be followed on the island. One rule is that only 100 people at a time can visit the island. That way, the park workers can make sure the land and animals keep safe.
Visitors can come to the island to have a close look at many kinds of fishes. They can dive(潜水) far below the surface. They use special tools to be able to breathe under the water. Through the clear water, visitors can see the bright colors of the fishes.
Visitors can also explore caves. Some of the caves even have paintings on the walls. These paintings were made by some Indians who lived on the island hundreds of years ago.
After a full day of fun activities, visitors can take a rest, listen to the night sounds, and watch the stars in the huge sky. The stars are easier to see. Visitors say that watching the stars is amazing. It's the perfect end to a perfect day.
If you love cave exploring, deep sea fishing, camping on the beach, experiencing what it would be like on such a special island, then Mona island should be the best place for you to have fun.
It's necessary to start a small talk sometimes. Here are 5 steps you can try to follow:
STEP 1: Talk with everyone you meet for the first time: Waiters, people you're standing in line with, neighbors and kids. Make yourself get into small talk situations: Doctors' waiting rooms, parties and bus stops.
STEP 2: Read everything: Cookbooks, newspapers, 1 magazines, maps and signs. Everything gives you information that you can talk about with others. Look for topics about everything: Television, music, sports, fashion and art. All of them are good topics for a talk.
STEP 3: Talk to yourself in the mirror: See what you have to say on the subjects, baseball, Russia, butter, shoes .Make a list of them. The more different, the better. Write down things that interest you: Funny stories you hear, beautiful things you see, shopping lists and calls you made.
STEP 4: Be a better listener: Did your co-worker just say she took her vacation in Europe? Did your neighbor just have twins? These are chances (机会) for making a small talk.
STEP 5: Try something new every day: Go home a new way. Try new food. Go online. All these give you active ideas and, more important, an active lifestyle.
Believe in yourself. The more you know, the more you can talk about.
Teens are not as healthy as they used to be. They are putting on weight (重量) .A recent research shows 97% of the teens need more exercise.
First, exercise can help your mind. People who get lots of physical activity might worry less and sleep better at night. You may even learn better in school. Physical activity can make your body strong. It can also keep you at a healthy weight. But how can teens be encouraged to do more exercise? Here are some good suggestions:
Doctors call watching TV or playing video games screen time. You should have no more than two hours of screen time a day. Then you will enjoy your life more. Find a sport you are interested in. . You can choose the traditional sports, such as basketball, soccer, or baseball. Those are all great sports and if you like them, play them.
Find a friend or a family member to exercise with you. You will have more fun and it's not easy for you to give up.
All in all, it's necessary for teens to do more exercise.
A. Interest is the best teacher. B. Keep away from the screen. C. Exercise helps in two ways. D. Exercise with others together. E. Second, exercise helps your body. |
In 2007, when I was eighteen I wrote a letter to my future self. I put it in a small box, put it away and completely forgot about it.
I didn't find it until we moved into our new home this year. It clearly instructed (指示) me to open on my birthday 2020. So I decided to open it.
I felt very surprised when I read this for the first time after 13 years. I still couldn't help thinking this was really cool. At the age of 18, I had so many hopes and dreams about the future. And now so much of what I wanted for myself has become true: I had a job in biology in the field of plants for 10 years. And I had a happy family. I did marry the man named Paul and he is still my one and only. He is a computer engineer. I have two lovely kids-a girl named Jenny and a boy called David. I have lived in Australia for nearly 5 years in a big house in a small town. I did visit a few more places in Canada although I haven't seen everything I'd like to. And after that I've also visited the USA, Australia and China.
I find it fascinating how the dreams of a young girl can become a grown woman's reality (现实). Do you think so? And write something to your future self. It will be a really wonderful experience.
